The real difference under carrick is goals

Reasons we look a completely different team under Carrick

1) Change of Formation - The player clearly hated 5 at the back, it became stale, we leaked goals, we didn't score. 4-2-3-1 is much more suited to our boys. It always has been

2) Settled GK + Defence. Steffen - Smith - Fry - Leinhan - Giles. Look great as a group, Fry and Leinhan are solid as they come and only getting better. The fact Fry was out at the start of the season was stupid.

3) Managers man management - To many times under previous regimes players would get called out for one mistake, dropped for a howler or stupidly rotated as they hit form (Flo Balogun) Carrick knows if it ain't broken don't fix it, Stand by your players (Steffen vs Burnley) and make them feel special. You'll notice at the end of every game he goes to every single player, hand shake, pat on the back, big smile.

4) Calmness - There's no panic, yes we suffered against Burnley BUT there was no catastrophic inquest, it was 'Right, on to the next one lads' it transmitter to the fans to, not seen to many meltdowns like usual.

5) Awareness of players best Attributes - Get the ball to Giles and let him cross. Let Hackney dictate in midfield, let Jonny Cover. Let Jones run at his man, allow him take the attention and create space. Get it in the box to Chuba, he'll score. If you Lump it Forss will chase it so don't worry about that. Complete understanding

6) Fringe players know they'll get an opportunity- Hoppe & Mowatt have both had minutes, Carrick fires them up to be ready regardless of if they're playing or not. Mowatts performance yesterday was excellent.

7) Mobile Midfielder - Credit Goes to Leo for this one - Hackney - Enough said.
We were to immobile with the three under Wilder.

8) Excellent Coaching team. Woodgate is a fantastic coach, not so much a manager but an absolutely excellent coach who's respected by everyone at the club. I stuck up for his appointment and he's proved me right. The experience of Danks, Woody and Fettis is fantastic for Leadbitter.
Who knows the club better than Woody and Leadbitter, they know what it means to play for us. They know what it means to win for us. I'm excited for the future with Stewy and Cattermole to. Some see it as jobs for the boys, I see it as Boro lads through and through who would always die for 3 points for us.

As fantastic a we have been under Carrick I'm still a little cautious, it's early days and sometimes you learn more when the side is struggling, as opposed to doing well.

Plus, we were equally as good under Wilder for a long period, until Burnleygate.

But I do feel that Carrick is a very different proposition to Wilder, someone who I warmed to immediately, intelligent, humble, balanced and forward thinking.

He's been a breath of fresh air.

Me to

I’m just delighted it’s all worked out great to have woody back, playing the football he loves as well not pullis ball.

I think the most impressive thing under Carrick is the way he has just kept everything simple. He's reviewed the squad, picked the best players in the right positions and looked to get the best out of those players who can make a difference for us going forward. He said in the interview yesterday about playing to Giles' strengths. It's not rocket science but how many managers over the years have overcomplicated things and looked for players to do things they can't? Meanwhile he's identified Giles, Jones and Akpom as the ones to get us the goals and tried to create the best environment to allow them to flourish. He's been a breath of fresh air and long may that continue.

For those who didn't watch iFollow on boxing day. Maddo, I think said he spoke to Carrick after the Burnley defeat and Carrick said "so what, nowts broken" I am paraphrasing but the gist was that we lost a game, it happens. No pressure applied to the players.

Someone above said you find out more when a manager is under pressure and this is true.

Carrick will also have been happy that we put ourselves in a very good position to win the match at Burnley, that game was a lot closer than some on here like to believe.

Does strike me as more a natural leader than Wilder.

Wilder is what you get when you order Mourinho from Wish.

Our drop in form under Wilder happened well before 'Burnleygate'.
He went from something like 2.1 points per game for his first dozen games to 1.2 ppg for the next twelve. Then 1.4 ppg for the last 5 games (after Burnleygate).

Would josh coburn be ideal to come in for forss..
forss has a good work rate with little to show for it, may be just bad luck but coburn seems to know where the goal is and is a good target man.. will we see him back or is he gone for good?

Forss's goal on Monday was a true poachers finish and he had some decent link up play as well.

I would not be surprised if he starts to score more often as he becomes more settled in the team.

I would also to see Hoppe be given a chance up top if Forss got injured - he has so far only had garbage time minutes out wide.

Let Coburn continue to get used to starting every week and come back ready to challenge to start.

Gone for good? I would hope not. Why wouldn't he be coming back?

Think he means gone for this season, which I understand is the position. Think it is probably best all round if Coburn had a full season at Bristol Rovers and then comes back next season to challenge for a first team place with us next year.

Forss is taking one for the team at the minute, lots of effort without the glory and it's probably helping Akpom a lot having him do a lot of the leg work up front for him.

Ask Brentford fans (and look at his goals for them) he's a natural finisher. At the minute he's just not getting the chances, but part of that might be to do with him running himself into the ground every match.

Do think he'll start to score more as the season goes on though.

yeah was thinking the same it is not like Forss is missing a shed load of chances every week he is just work selflessly for the team and whatever he and Akpom are doing it seems to be working don't think I would change it

We were something like eight unbeaten with seven wins until Blackburn away were we had chance to really crash the promotion party and crashed and burned in front of sky cameras. From then on our form was patchy but with some good wins, until we faced Sheff Utd away and were battered. The cup wins v Man utd and spurs during this period covered up our deteriorating league form. We then stumbled on towards the end of season and we all know how that finished.

So, I'd say Blackburn away 24th Jan was were our season started to come off the rails, before that we were looking unstoppable.

I truly hope he’s got more to show us, I liked his raw passion..

But he might not be carricks priority and may end up making way for a good buy in the summer 🤷🏼‍♂️

If muniz returns in the transfer window he might be recalled him self..

Anyway I’d like to see him given a chance at some point… 6 in 12 at BR isn’t bad

In Carrick's Blackburn presser he was asked about what made him play Akpom in his current, slightly deeper role. He said how straight away he noticed one of his main strengths was his running with the ball at feet and ability to link play. He noted how the majority of his goals come when he is running forwards (rather than a back to goal type striker for example who will turn defenders). It was a fairly simple observation but it's proved an absolute masterstroke so far!
