Last weeks victory at struggling Cardiff was a lesson in how those at the bottom end of the table are no more easy to beat than those at the top. The first half was difficult and the Bluebirds tried to stop us playing. The second half - as we all know - was a different show altogether. The difference compared to how we were a year ago, is that we have the quality, the depth, a squad willing to die for the Club and a Head Coach who are all pushing in the same direction. In his Media Conference on Monday, Michael Carrick was asked "what have you done here" ?

Carrick was his usual calm, collected self: "Just got good players. Terrific squadand they`re all in it for the right reasons. In it together, sticking together. They are a joy to coach and guide. They are willing to learn and listen....and push in the same direction". As for the future: "Im sure there`s more to come [before the end of the season]. No magic ingredient - just honesty, hard work, trust and pulling in the same direction!

Sheffield United?

"There`s no disguising the fact we know the situation in the league. we know where we stand. We know whats at stake, in terns of how the result can affect the table. But thats it!" Just another game and another challenge. "Dont get carried away with "ifs and buts" We have to focus and have tunnel vision "...to keep yourself away from dreaming about all sorts of different things. Its what WE can do, so thats the challenge and its one we`re looking forward to". "Its where you finish at the start of May that counts".

[Blades] "They`ve been incredibly consistent with their performances and results. A very well organised, well-drilled team, who know the league inside out and know what it takes to get results in this league. They bring an awful lot of different things to a game". They have the players and a team ethic which makes for some excellent football. Their crowd are really important. It will be a good atmosphere. All in all, they are a really well-balance team". But we are ready to adapt - to tweak the team - but not make changes for every game. We have a way of approaching games and the depth of squad. "Every game is a tough game in this league".

Is it alreight for fans to get excited about this game?!
"Yeah! 100%! Thats what they should do! You have to get excited about the bigger games and as a supporter, get excited when your team is winning and playing well. Thats part of the emotion of the ups and downs of football. Thats why we love the game and the atmosphere...." As for the sell out crowd at Bramall Lane "we will feel that support" - just like at Cardiff. Carrick particulalry praised those fans who travelled "all that way down there" to South Wales.

Does Carrick "allow" the "P" word around the Boro ?
"You say `allow` it. I`m not that type [of coach]....to beat the drum and be so disciplined that I can tell people what to talk about."

So, its on to Sheffield for this "big" game. For Michael Carrick, Woody and the staff - its "just another game". Another "challenge". But Michael says its OK for us fans to get emotional and enjoy it. So we are going to do what we always do: get behind the Boro and scxream to a win in a hostile, noisy, Bramall Lane!

Up The Mighty Boro!

Come on!

✊

Match Preview

It’s now 13 games unbeaten for Sheffield United who dismantled Swansea 3-0 at the weekend. That run has seen them into the last 16 of the FA Cup and move ten points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough, with a game in hand to boot. It would take a monumental collapse for United to be reeled in now, but a win in this promotion “six-pointer” would still be a huge result for Paul Heckingbottom’s men.

Heckingbottom remained coy on whether Nigerian billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi would be buying a Premier League club when stating “we’ll hopefully accumulate enough points” for promotion. Encouragingly, United haven’t lost a home H2H with Boro in over a decade, and that 2011 loss is their only one here in fixtures between these two since 1987 (W8, D2, L1)!

As for the visitors, Michael Carrick is making a good fist of it in his first managerial job and will hope to be the man to finally blunt the Blades. For the reasons stated, this is a ‘must win’ for Boro if they’re to retain any slim hopes of gatecrashing the top-two, and picking up 21 of the last 24 available suggests they’ll certainly hold their own (W7, L1).

* No Championship side has scored more than Boro’s 31 goals since Carrick’s first game in charge after a 3-1 win in Cardiff over the weekend strengthened their foothold in the top-six. (y)

Playing away shouldn’t faze Carrick’s men either, as only two host sides since the start of November have managed to take anything from them (W6, L2), despite Boro’s measly return of just one clean sheet during that run.

Players to watch: Nordic talents could rule the day! It took only a few minutes for Sheffield United’s Norwegian forward Sander Berge to score in the reverse, meaning Boro are the only side that he’s scored against both at home and away. Looking to outdo him will be Boro’s Finnish finisher Marcus Forss, who has made his presence felt with a return of three goal contributions across his last four away appearances (G2, A1).

I wonder who is learing :)

Going to be tight, I am worried they are good at getting at teams like us who pass it a lot but we have been flying recently so 0-1 to us

Some posters are forgetting that the two most difficult away games on paper that we have had under Carrick - Burnley and Sunderland - we were well beaten. So it will be interesting to see if that continues in another difficult away game tonight- I hope not
I hope not too but don’t see much evidence that there will be change. Would love to be eating my words at 10pm, of course.

Michael Carrick said before Cardiff:

"Its irrelevant where teams are or which league". "We respect them for the challenge they are going to bring...especially across their forward line".

In the Championship, "everyones fighting in the league, whether your down the bottom, you`re fighting to...get out of trouble. If you`re at the top, you`re fighting to try and get out the league. So everyones fighting for something".
