The Open

Their players do though. Casey the best Brit 4 back.
I didn't mean they don't know how to play links golf, I think its more a case of some Americans turning up and expecting something like they get back home and links golf is totally different.

I heard a story about Tom Watson saying he hated links golf when he first played it, he thought it was so unfair the way you could hit a good tee shot and have your ball run from the middle of a fairway into a bunker. St George's is a course with really undulating fairways and you can get a lot of bad luck with where your ball ends up sometimes.

It was only when he learnt to accept you'd have a certain amount of bad luck and mentally being able to bounce back from it that he started to win over here.

Playing on the US tour they are so used to teeing it up and ripping it as far as possible then just hitting wedges in, links golf is different because you've got to plot your way round a lot more like Tiger did when he hit irons all the way round at Royal Liverpool.

Morikawa and Speith looked suited to these conditions though with both of them being great iron players.

Just heard Brooks' interview, he said he loves links golf and this is his favourite event of the year!

Top 12 at the moment

4 South Africans!
2 English
1 Argentinian
1 German
4 Americans

Scotland have equaled up with China now. 1 each left in the field. Incredible that there was only one Scottish player teeing off this year. Where are all the great Scots links players gone?

Another great factoid. Ian Fleming the Bond author was a member at Royal St George’s. The number 007 came from the number of the bus that Fleming used to get stuck behind driving to the course.
