* The One and Only Unofficial "Official" Boro v Swansea [10/08/24] Programme and Match - Day Thread *

Or maybe ran into the box, new a challenge would be coming and delayed to invite the challenge and win a penalty. 3 in 2 matches
We each see football in our own ways. If we all thought the same there would be no need for a message board. It would just be an echo chamber of us all saying the same thing.

I acknowledge your view of it. I have mine.

You have to admit though that those stats do not tell the whole story.

It reminded me of some of englands performances that today. Score a goal and then back off and hang on.
That mindset has to come from the manager’s demeanour.

It’s happened so many times under Carrick when some bravery would’ve meant we bury teams like that in the way they came to be buried but we backed off them and made them look so much better than they were.

The jury is out with Carrick for me.
Subs seem to be slow and reactive instead of proactive like his former manager Fergie.

And, I’ll tell you what, Derby away next week will be a cauldron because Paul warne is a good manager and organiser. I know derby lost night at Blackburn but they will really come at us next week. Not convinced we have what it takes to withstand this kind of onslaught.
We’ll soon find out.
Yes, it felt worse than those stats suggest, certainly in the second half. Relieved not to concede in the end.

It's interesting coming on here after the game sometimes.

I thought people would have been raving and overreacting that we would win promotion easily because of how much better we were than Swansea.

But it is the other way. Interesting how different people see the game.

Here’s a snapshot from the Swansea forum;
Most agreeing they didn’t do enough for a draw but very unimpressed by us. And like I said, against a capable team we would’ve done well to get a draw after that 2nd half.
We have the players - the manager sets the tone of the team and performance for me.

'Boro looked very nervous towards the end and many teams would have taken advantage. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough creativity in midfield or cutting edge upfront to do that. Must have been very frustrating for the stalwart Jacks who made that long trip.

They were very average were Boro.
Sadly,we are still possessed with possession stats .

We are so slow which is criminal as we have some Lacey players

Biggest issue ,for me,is Grimes

It’s the first game (and the first time we have won in 10 years). Even MC said before the game it would not be a classic due to the fact that we had only played friendlies. It will take a few games until we are up to full speed. The biggest plus was the clean sheet and to win ugly. We will have to do that a lot more this season if we are going to go up.

Well if we are going to go by what the Swansea fans think, here’s some more you accidently missed from the same message board…..I’m confused how you only found a couple of negative posts about us and not the loads of positive ones 😂

Those comments are correct and were about our first half performance which, was excellent; and we should’ve been 2 or 3 up but just like last season, we missed great opportunities to pretty much finish off the game against a pi$$ poor team

We were a completely different team in the second half and Carrick done nothing to avert that slide that a lot of teams would’ve taken points off us after that second half and all I’m saying is, if we want to consider ourselves to be contenders then that today isn’t going to be good enough

I'll try to be a bit more constructive than f off.

We dominated chances, we dominated shots, we dominated shots on target.

You are right or finishing will have to be better, however we created chance after chance, even in the second half.

Our strikers were wasteful, our defence never looked in serious trouble and swans xg confirms that.

Your posts are particularly negative tonight. Take a breath and enjoy the three points. If your analysis has any credence the whole board will be agreeing with you in a couple of weeks.

Definitely automatic promotion for us this season.
It's in the T-Leaves

xG yesterday was 2.7-0.4, felt closer than that in the 2nd half!

We only got more xG than that on 2 occasions last year (Southampton H, Preston H)
