The officials in this league just get worse

That’s the issue as to not give a pen is bad enough but then as you say surely then you give a dive so to not give anything at all is pathetic.
It’s perfectly possible to have a situation that is neither a foul nor a dive. Indeed I would argue that despite your “as you say” @parmoboy in his imagined referee’s explanation is doing the opposite of suggesting it’s a dive, he’s suggesting precisely the case where it’s neither.

For the record, I think it was a pen. My point is that we as fans are too blinkered ever to accept an explanation as to why it wasn’t. Instead of disagreeing with the decision we will just disagree with the explanation. Probably even more strongly. So it is the ultimate exercise in futility.

You see this illustrated by the recent attempts by PGMOL to explain VAR decisions after the event. The explanations are just ridiculed. The process is ridiculed. We don’t have the right mindset in football for this to serve any purpose.

Are there stats for type of bookings released post season?

I assume 'simulation' is still unsporting conduct and punishable by a yellow?

I never understand why diving / simulation bookings are rarely given.

Even if the ref waves play on, half indicates it's a dive or laughs at the player claiming the foul etc. they don't get booked.

Too difficult to definitely say that it's a dive?

They seem to have little trouble deciding if force is excessive, the line between a shoulder charge and a shove, what's deemed as excessive grappling at a corner and what isn't. But 'simulation' seems to only get given in really blatant throwing yourself down in the box after leaping over a leg type situations.

Of course there are but I’m saying it’s the inaction that we often see in this league that is normally the result of a cop out that is so frustrating.

No different to all other levels to be fair.

I watched a game this morning and afterwards I heard about a lack of cards, in a game that didn't warrant any more than those given, by some fans of the losing side.

2 worst refereeing performances I've seen were both premier league. V Newcastle in one of McLaren's first games and v arsenal under Southgate when he sent off boateng.

They're as good as the players, managers and coaches at this level. Not top level.
No it’s the perfect storm of not good enough to get in the prem or worse not good enough to stay in it. Any one decent is taken up the dross of the prem are punished by being forced in our league.

It’s a joke scenario.

Yes, like the players and coaches not good enough for the Prem, they're at this level but neither dross nor a joke.

Anyway, enough of this nonsense, I'm off for a look at the 'Here come the moaners and whingers' thread.

I'll always try to give referee's support, as it's a difficult job, but that penalty decision today was a total shocker. I cannot see how he decides it isn't a foul.
It wasn’t just a penalty but a sending off as well - i can’t think of a more clear penalty than that one in a long time. It was an even worse decision than the one not given at Plymouth, an that was bad enough

They aren’t punished by being in it though.

Look at Darren England the other week /

The problem with a lot of officials is they have never played the game so don't understand in game situations, Bangura would never have dived there as he has a great chance to score, he's deffo taken out.
If it’s a dive then it’s a yellow card - the ref just bottled it because he’d also have had to hand out a red if he’d given it

So are the players. We get the second best cohort of players (which might go some way to explaining why despite having 19 chances to one, we lost one nil) and we get the second best cohort of refs. Do you want to sack them all and instead have the ones that are currently only deemed good enough for league one?

No I want the two bodies to be separate as poor prem refs shouldn’t be demoted to to our league got one thing.

I give up
I’m not being deliberately awkward, I’m seriously not seeing the difference. We don’t get the best players in our division. We don’t get the best refs. We get the second best of each. Both exist in quite competitive professions where their performances ultimately determine the level they rise to.

There is no conspiracy that is deliberately giving us sh1t refs. We get the ones that rise to this level, and no further, or that almost rise to the next level, but then get dropped down, just as we do with players.

So again, what are you suggesting? Either they move as they do now, or we end up with worse refs, surely.

It read a clear penalty today. The ref saw it and didn't give it. You would assume because he judged it shoulder to shoulder.

It was a poor decision.
Agreed. And all refs will give poor decisions. If the system is working a second tier ref will give more poor decisions than first tier refs. And lower league refs, and non-league refs, will give even more poor decisions. That doesn’t mean the system isn’t working, it means that it is.

Our players missed numerous chances today that Erling Haaland would have put away in his sleep because they are not Haaland. It doesn’t mean they should be sacked or made to play in a lower league next week or accused of corruption. It just means they’re not as good as he is.
