The New Cure Album

The Cure released their first album in 1979.

Chris Westwood in Record Mirror gave it 4.5 stars out of 5, Dave McCullogh in Sounds gave it 5/5, Smash Hits gave it 8/10.

45 years later, FORTY FIVE years, they have released an album that has 4 out of 5 stars review in The Guardian, 5 stars in NME, 4 stars in Mojo etc. etc.

That's quite an achievement.

Smith says he is retiring in 5 more years. Without doubt I'll need to catch him one more time before the end.

Never been a fan but got to say that piece on 6 Music was brilliant. They have a new fan now.

Another fabulous gift from Robert Smith and his remarkable group.

Endsong is perfect.
I can never say goodbye is another classic.

But the album flows well and as usual just gnaws away at you, growing with every listen.

If it takes another 16 years, I will wait, so long as Endsong is not their final word.

I'm a bit lost here. Never a rabid fan, but enjoyed most of their work. This just sounds like Cure album. After 16 years, they haven't progressed. Or am I missing something?

In my opinion you are missing quite a lot, but each to their own.

They’ve never really been a band that revolutionise their sound, more of a slow and steady evolution. Gonna give it a spin this evening when life’s quiet enough to immerse myself in their dark and brooding musical landscape

Dark is an understatement. Just listened to it and found it a bit difficult to be fair. I will definitely be giving it another go though as its no doubt going to be a grower that creeps up on me.
