The most woeful, inept, “performance” since Michael Carrick took charge.

Second half was quite good. Had we gone in at HT 0-0 we’d be probably be sitting here fairly content with a 1 or maybe even 2-0 win.

But yeah first half was awful and it was too little too late.

Well said Roofie, a very honest assessment of today and the feelings post-match.

There are one or two players in this team who I think have ran out of time and chances and should be moved on in the summer.

Well Carrick was playing Hackney and Azaz in the wrong positions - once we changed things round we did look better but the damage was already done. But we’re going to go on giving goals away when we persist with players who aren’t up to the job

Exactly, Fry was mute as usual. The thinking within our first team is very concerning. I’m really not sure what the aim is apart from trying not to upset players. F&vk their sensitivities….tell the c&nts!!!
Frankly Fry is not good enough. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights with the ball at his feet, doesn't begin to look like a commanding CB at any point. Add Ayling and Engel to that and it's little wonder that van d Berg is screaming and pulling his hair out. We had 3 replacements on the bench, all of whom could and probably should have started.

Hackney had his worst game yet in another abortion of being pushed forward as Carrick learned nothing from the last time. Barlaser looked like the lower League player he really is and we have to question the sanity of anyone who thinks otherwise.

If Scott thinks Greenwood is a striker I despair at
the thought of him trying to actually acquire one. On that basis it's a relief he failed to do so in the window. Would smell of Gestede MK2 coming through the door.

Greenwood is atrocious i would give Gilbert 90 minutes or a youth player

Second half was better because of changes they made, not changes we made. They dropped the press 5 - 10 minutes before half time to sit on their lead. If they had not had a midweek cup game I'm sure they could have played the same way second half and got another couple.

Agreed, but even if the same 11 had lined up at the start as they did after half an hour and through the second half I don't think we'd have been 2 down so early on

He really doesn't seem to want to give Gilbert a go does he?
Carrick always says every player has his chance when they get their opportunity. He always cites physicality, mentality, team work and dedication and hard work in training. On those criteria, presumably Gilbert isn't performing and hardly gets a sniff. On that basis, leave him out and put one of the youngsters on the bench - someone hungry to get the ball, get minutes and get experience.(y)

Could I just add Bristol City played 120+mins midweek and it was they who had the long trip to Teesside.

Makes our first half performance even more shambolic.

That system - 4-2-3-1 - needs a midfielder "destroyer" for it to work. Clayton was our most recent one, a player "none shall pass" through tough tackling or dark arts. Currently we have a soft as poo CM and it's too easy for teams to play against us.

We've needed this type of player for years but we keep getting lovely football types. Nice if your team is firing on all cylinders, full of confidence, knocking goals in for fun. But when you need to roll your sleeves up and graft........

Not a chance carrick will have a limited destroyer like Clayton in the team.

At home this season:

Draws - Huddersfield, Rotherham
Defeats - Stoke, Bristol City, Millwall, QPR

Add to that points chucked away against 'decent' (?) teams when in total control - Hull, Sunderland, Coventry (albeit in that one we were out on our feet 2nd half).

Our home form is atrocious.

We play some lovely football at times. But we lack a striker, and continue to make the same mistakes at the back game in, game out. We are very easy to play against.

You're probably right, and we will be having this conversation next year.

Unfortunately as a club that's the type of player we have to look at - the Makalele types are a bit out of our budget.......unless we manage to get a young RVB type in.

Should never have have allowed Bristol to have all those parmos in Manjaros on Friday night - it was the parmos that done it

The 1st half performance proves we are still a way off the finished article, it stunned those present. Im not getting all this dramatic wa-wa stuff, we are still a work in progress in a tough division.

I don’t think we needed that first half to show we weren’t a finished article.
We we’re far from that before the transfer window and went further backwards.

A decent championship team and no more.
I don’t get the optimism that this is the base for next season either.
It is likely to be very similar.

We are 4-5 key players off.

CM, CFx2, RB, LB.

We appear to have a few quid in the kitty, so going to be a massive summer. Again.

Some will have gained experience others exposed. The manager his staff will learn too. I wish I knew the future for next season.
