The Morrissey - Marr spat continues

Yep, back to 1986 he's been a bellend, saying things for shock value. For example below, but also see my link for more rubbish from him.
Moz: "Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy... There is a line when defense of one's race becomes an attack on another race and, because of black history and oppression, we realise quite clearly that there has to be a very strong defence. But I think it becomes very extreme sometimes."
"But, ultimately, I don't have very cast iron opinions on black music other than black modern music which I detest. I detest Stevie Wonder. I think Diana Ross is awful. I hate all those records in the Top 40 - Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they're vile in the extreme. In essence this music doesn't say anything whatsoever."

Interviewer: But it does, it does. What it says can't necessarily be verbalised easily. It doesn't seek to change the world like rock music by speaking grand truths about politics, sex and the human condition. It works at a much more subtle level - at the level of the body and the shared abandon of the dancefloor. It won't change the world, but it's been said it may well change the way you walk through the world.

Moz: "I don't think there's any time anymore to be subtle about anything, you have to get straight to the point. Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black. I think something political has occurred among Michael Hurl and his friends and there has been a hefty pushing of all these black artists and all this discofied nonsense into the Top 40. I think, as a result, that very aware younger groups that speak for now are being gagged."

Interviewer: You seem to be saying that you believe that there is some sort of black pop conspiracy being organised to keep white indie groups down.

Moz: "Yes, I really do."

I saw an interview with him and George Michael being asked about Joy Division, Mozza saying it was all dross and said nothing then GM totally owned him and disagreed

Was offered The Smiths for £350 at a Northern Polytechnic SU in 1983 for about £350. Phoned a mate at a large London agency, who basically told me that the lead singer wouldn't stop moaning all day, and the fans would hardly buy any beer. Booked Southern Death Cult instead for £400 and made a killing

I’m sure the Ian Astbury devotees were pleased,

However, it sounds to me a bit like, “Back in 2013, someone offered me N’Golo Kante for less than a million; but I asked around, and snapped up Jozsef Varga on loan instead!”
😉

Let's be honest he's scum.

We don't venerate the work of nonces like Gadd, Clapton is vilified for a series of remarks he made when (to excuse the inexcusable) he was in a bad place mentally, Pete Townshend's PC, even Bowie is criticised for his dalliance with Fascism and its iconography. Yet this odious bigot gets a "get out of jail" card for his work with The Smiths.

I really don't get it.
Erm...everyone hates Morrissey. I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't think he's a ****. He has no get out of jail free card. He has an everyone thinks I'm a **** card.

That BoroFur poster didn't seem to like Morrissey

nothing will ever tarnish the Smiths for me. The pair need to grow up and just stop the silliness. Without Andy Rourke there will be no Smiths reunion. Johnny Marr was brilliant last time I saw him so was Morrissey. They both play Smiths songs at the gigs. Either way. Their music will endure but I for one cannot tolerate Morrisseys views

I'm never sure with Morrissey whether it's an honestly held belief or, and more likely in view, a desperate attempt to stay relevant.

I will admit to seeing him last year, it was by and large excellent and, one song aside, his "views" were not aired.

I do think he's got form for an "alternative" view though. Margaret on the guillotine? As he's got older he's obviously "switched sides" and his marginalisation has led to those views becoming more extreme.

He's always been a racist bellwhiff, it's just for many years people (including myself) thought he was the sensitive singer we'd fallen in love with in The Smiths, and was so intelligent there was a nuance to his lyrics.

Looks at something like Bengali in Platforms now, and the lyrics ("life is hard enough when you belong here") - by Viva Hate he wasn't hiding it. I think the only incident where he was unfairly treated was the Union Flag incident at Madstock. He got pelters for that, but a few short years later you couldn't move for the flag and artists draping themselves with it.

As for them "both growing up" I'm not really sure what Johnny has done. he's conducted himself in a grown up way mostly, considering how tiring it must get for him having to address his former band mates views.
