The Migrant problem.

Watching the BBC News tonight about trying to stop migrant workers from coming from France and hearing that 50,000 migrants applications are not being reviewed plus the fact that Sunak wants to increase the defence budget to 2.5 % of GDP. It’s a very difficult situation but maybe try this. After an initial assessment of qualifications, those that do not have the required skills (Medical etc) place them into the forces for two years. They will immediately have a home, a job, a future career. They will not be stuck in hotels or on barges. They will learn British values. You can monitor them and easily find out if there are any dodgy ones. When, or if, they want to come out the forces after two years they will, at least, have contributed to the Country (tax etc) and learned a trade. My Dad had to work in the army when he was in his teens as a conscript and he enjoyed it. He always told us about his time on Christmas Island.
Most of these people are desperate (some aren’t) but people (especially kids) should not be dying because of traffickers in France. This must be a better solution than just sending people back to Rwanda?

So…you ask someone why they’ve come to the UK and they reply to flee from war, then you say - “do you fancy joining the army?”
What are these British values people speak of?

As a collective, we have made such a hash of things all over the place, the countries these people come from are so screwed they want to leave, the real problem is there, stabilise these places and most of the issues will be resolved.

It’s a complicated business immigration, it could be argued that a majority aren’t running from danger as they are safe already, in that they are travelling from European countries to get here.

I think the current regime are tackling it by stealth, I’m onto them and I know the game they’re playing; for the last 14 years they’ve been working so hard to ruin this country, it a plan to put people off wanting to come, very clever!

Agree but we cannot sort out the world!

There has never been a war since the Falklands so they will probably will never have to fight but, at least they will have a future role in the Country rather than being stuck in hotels and barges and contributing nothing. It will help them and their families integrate into the Country. It must be a better solution than what we have now. (y)

I guess you're focussed on the 50-60k illegal migrants fleeing war rather than the 670k net legal ones that we have to import and settle from all over the world now we've lost the simple come and go supply of young European workers?
Why does no-one talk about how we shot ourselves in the foot there? To me that's the real problem.

Big difference between illegal migrants, asylum seekers and migrants. I wouldn't inflict the pain and misery of joining the army on anyone, let alone people just wanting a better life for them and their family. People aren't joining the army because they don't trust the government anymore, especially people from poorer families, you can't give them **** all and then go ask them to fight for a country that thinks nothing of them.

Stop the boats is a diversion tactic. The Tories are desperate to make it a big issue. In reality, people desperately crossing the channel has been ongoing for my entire lifetime (I’m 44).

Britain is 17th out of the EU countries when it comes to asylum seekers and refugees. Hardly a massive problem as right wing politicians want you to believe.

Besides, rich European countries are only too happy to take educated, skilled or people with money from poor developing countries. Those are called migrants. People from the same countries not in that category are a big problem apparently.

Desperate people of colour risking their lives in the channel are not the reason British roads are shocking, or some people can’t get a dentist or doctor appointment. That is government policy.

How would you define an illegal migrant, how would you identify them & what would your approach to them be?

The government have deliberately created a situation where they can claim more asylum seekers are ‘illegal’ by doing away with the safe and legal routes.

Watch any of the interviews with a Minister where they are asked to describe the legal routes and see them flounder.

To be frank, the fact that this thread has its own thread of support on RR should give the OP pause for thought.

Someone who doesn't have the legal right to seek asylum in this country. Note NOT someone who illegally enters the country. Because the government has made sure all genuine asylum seekers can't legally enter the country. Yet they can legally seek asylum, so they can come any way they want.

Yep. I don't think this cartoon can ever be shared too many times. Too many of the population need to wake the F up and realise this is exactly what's happening.

How about we spend a little on improving the countries and thus the quality of life that the migrants are coming from, rather than spending billions on making the conditions worse instead?

You could send Billions to help these people and I can honestly say they would never see a penny as the regimes in charge are that corrupt.

so then that would involve regime change in most of the countries these people are coming from. Are you suggesting we send in the armed forces?
