The Marvel Stuff

I've never been a fan of those comic films, but my youngest worked on Black Widow so I thought I ought to give it a go.. I really enjoyed BW, so watched the Avengers films in order. They were so/so but OK

So I have gone for Disney's 'in timeline order', and started watching them all. I'm not sure the timeline quite works but have quite enjoyed them so far. Just finished Iron Man 3 and thought it was the best of all 3 IM's

Captain America, Winter Soldier next which should be good. But then it's Guardians of the Galaxy stuff. I'll just miss those two out

I tried to watch them in order last Christmas and I got up to the first Guardians of the Galaxy (which I actually didn’t mind), but I just feel like they’re all… the same.

There’s far too many movies and now tv shows.

I was never really a superhero fan growing up though, I could watch the early 2000 Spider Man’s and the Batman Nolan trilogy, but just can’t get interested in Captain America, Dr Strange, Thor etc.

I was never a big fan of the superhero films previously but I watched my way through them all a few months back and thought the Marvel films where fantastic. I can't get into the DC films as much(although I did enjoy the suicide squad films), I also thought The peacemaker(DC) was one of the best of the superhero series alongside WandaVision(marvel). I find though that quite a few of the series are like bad 80s action B movies, the films are all fantastic.

27 films and 7 tv shows to get through, better man than me if you do that

Standouts for me in all are the last 2 Avenger films along with the Guardians films.

Comfortably the best Superhero type films in my opinion.
I agree. They're very different to most other superhero films. I don't think any characters have "super" powers for starters.

They're as much action crime thrillers, just the protagonist wears a funny costume. A lot of people who don't like superhero movies would probably enjoy them. Particularly the Dark Knight.

They range from ho-hum to pretty good.
I've lost some interest in seeing them since Endgame.

I think they did a decent job of varying the tone of the films, given all SH films follow the same sort of narrative.

1st guardians film is not to be missed.

Guardians of the galaxy movies are probably my faves. The first five minutes of the second one, with Baby Groot dancing to mister blue sky as an epic fight rages around him sum the mood of them up perfectly.

I do think the marvel universe has kind of eaten itself now. You can't go and watch a film without checking out so many other films and TV series. We went to watch the new doctor strange movie but the other half has watched Wanda vision and I haven't so missed some of the plot. Frustrating

so watched the Avengers films in order.

So I have gone for Disney's 'in timeline order',
Don't have Disney+ but was informed the "Marvel in order" doesn't include the TV series which, according to the 'tru fans'™, are also required to be watched in an order that is interspersed with the films to get the full scale of the Marvel Universe.

The whole Marvel USP kind of burned out after Endgame cos everything had been building up to that for 10 years. Where do you go after that? Especially when certain characters have fully completed their character arc.

I fully agree about Guardians though, that is the best standalone series of the lot.

The Guardians of the Galaxy is your way into understanding the infinity stones as well as getting an idea of who is Thanos , as well as being a very funny movie.
I used to collect marvel comics as a kid so I'm really into these series of movies but feel at this moment they are lacking something maybe while they reintroducing new characters it lacks that team blend of the Avengers and a background threat of Thanos who we knew was coming .
The TV series need a kick up the **** they s stories in themselves but they need to understand they sit in the marvel universe so they need more emphasis on that rather than the odd Easter egg, probably only Loki and Wanda have got it out there, Hawkeye gets bye on the strength of the two Hawkeyes interaction.

I've invested so much time in the damn things I basically can't stop now.

For me the timelines really need cleaning up to at least officially tie in the previously Netflix TV series a bit better for a start.

*Spoilers*

Kingpin wandering around in Hawkeye clearly after Endgame for example after he's been done over in Daredevil S3.

That said I still get a little frisson like in Ms Marvel when she's described as having a mutation Ooooooooo

But its getting really hard work now as well as multiverses we clearly have realms as a thing now. It's like having homework.

btw Cap & Winter soldier is the best movie to settle that argument

I'm a bit of a marvel geek so if you have any questions fire away. 😎

We've just finished Ms Marvel on Disney+ which ultimately was a disappointing series. Especially the reveal of her 'roots' in the last episode, Disney taking liberty with creative control.

Thor Ragnarok is my favourite so far. Definitely the funniest.

"I really wish I had my hammer."
"Hammer?"
"Quite unique. It was made from this special metal from the heart of a dying star. And when I spun it really, really fast it gave me the ability to fly."
"You rode a hammer?"
"No, I didn’t ride the hammer."
"The hammer rode you on your back?"
"No. I used to spin it really fast, and it would pull me off the..."
"Oh, my God. The hammer pulled you off?"
"The ground. It would pull me off the ground, up into the air, and I would fly. Every time I threw it, it would always come back to me."
"Sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this hammer"
