The Jubilee

I was a little disappointed with the concert last night to be honest. I though Rod was very poor. Perhaps the inclusion of the likes of Calvin Harris, Tom Jones, Adele, Lionel Ritchie, ( commitments permitting) would have given the concert a bit more umph

It was pretty well known his voice has gone and it was an odd choice of song with Sweet Caroline. So he got the poor karaoke pub singer award. There were some highlights for me. Alicia Keys was excellent as was Botticeli and Mabel. Duran Duran weren't bad either.

Bocelli was class, as was Alicia Keys and Duran Duran sounded pretty good despite looking ridiculous. The Paddington Bear sketch at the start was great too. Whatever you think about Liz, she does have a sense of humour.

We are having a garden party next week to celebrate.

The wife has invited a lot of the pensioners who are in their late 80’s early 90’s for afternoon tea and drinks. A lot of these don’t get across their doorstep and it will be good to get them together.

They have all been good to us over the years and are good friends and neighbours. It will be lovely to pay them back in some way.

So I will be decorating the house and garden with bunting and Union Jacks, fill the fridges up with wine and beer, and will be raising a glass to one of our greatest monarchs.

I am sure they will be plenty joining me in toasting her health.
We had our garden party and if I say so myself, it was a huge success. The older men had steel flying up all over and I am sure a few will have welding flashes this morning. The inevitable conversation on National Service came out and they touched on some of their exploits and places stationed. The ladies made small talk like only ladies can and I wonder how many steps my wife did making sure everyone had a drink in their hands and something to eat. The food, which everyone contributed to, was fantastic.

The wife is presently doing the rounds, taking cake to the pensioners and one lady who lives on her own said, "I would like to thank you and Alan for inviting me. I had three glasses of wine and slept right through the night. It was great to see people and talk to them, something I haven't done in ages. I feel like a new woman today."

That statement alone made it worthwhile but having the garden filled with music and laughter and spending quality time with my dad and my two sons, made it a day that will live long into our memories.

I am sure I am not the only one who has felt this way this weekend and on that note, I would like to toast our queen's jubilee. I feel it's done the nation good and allowed people to forget for a moment the madness the Tory government has caused.

That's a great read. Thank you. Your good lady sounds a diamond.

Well done to you and your wife to helping to bring enjoyment to local community, irrelevant of anyones thoughts/ opinions on the Royal Family it obviously brought lots of joy and happiness to lots of people.

The question everyone wants to know though is how nice was the cake ?

Which one, they were all good 😊 👍😜

My favourite was the chocolate cake made by a lovely lady who has her hands full looking after her husband who suffers from dementia.

Wouldn’t disagree with that. Allegedly the BBC asked Rod to sing Sweet Caroline.

My sister & brother in laws on a family visit from Canada came to the road party, they absolutely loved it & will be the envy of their family & friends when they return home to Canada, they also had the pleasure of meeting Andy Preston, very polite he was to everyone he met in our road today
