The Holiday

Got to be right up there with the likes of scarface and goodfellas as one of the best films ever made. What a movie. The Mr Napkin head scene is iconic
I trust this is a wind up. It’s singularly one of the worst films ever made. I would put it in my bottom 3 films that should never have seen the light of day.

Frankly the cast should be ashamed for getting involved in such nonsense particularly Kate Winslett and Jack Black. The ONLY redeeming feature of this eyesore of a film is the music score by Hans Zimmer.

It's hardly The Godfather but probably one of the better modern Christmas films

Doubt the cast are ashamed, they got paid well for it, streaming and Christmas season will no doubt ensure ongoing totalities and while the critics didn't like it, review aggregators show audiences did

80% on Rotten Tomatoes
8 on metacritic
7/10 IMDb

Terrible films can have mass appeal which this one clearly has. I’d classify this one along with the hundreds of romcoms that get shown throughout this period on the various Christmas satellite channels - just because it had a bigger budget and a stellar cast doesn’t mask the fact that this is an absolute shocker. But if you enjoy it fair enough - it’s certainly for me at least firmly in the worst films category.

The mrs absolutely loves it, whereas i think its horrendous. Love Actually is the best by far, blows The Holiday out the water.

If it has mass appeal, is it actually terrible or do you just not like it?

If it was an absolute shocker so many people enjoy enjoy it - plenty of annual star studded Christmas films with the same formula fall absolutely flat every year.

It's no love actually but don't think it's bad at all.

I have acknowledged it’s mass appeal. Maybe it’s the cast that attracts a following, although Jude Law is not my idea of a watchable actor and neither is Diaz. That said am not it’s demograph so what do I know. All I do know is that to compare it with Scarface and Goodfellas is surely taking the p1ss.

The op is obviously in jest but it's a bit OTT suggesting that people enjoy the film for superficial reasons like the cast rather than just liking different things to you. I'm not its demographic either, and I enjoyed the movie. Wasn't going to win any Oscars but wasn't trying to.

Like I said; handfuls of Christmas movies every year with strong casts fall completely flat. This made good money at the cinema and audiences enjoyed it, and it's a hit on streaming services every year now.

My wife LOVES it, and as a result I've probably sat through it at least 20 times. She's now taken to watching it on her last business flight of the year as a bit of a ritual and so I've managed to avoid it for the last few years (COVID lockdown excepted).

I think it's okay, but it's probably spoiled a bit because I really don't like Cameron Diaz, something about her face.

Might watch it again though, only had the one Christmas film so far this year.

I've never seen it. Missus loves it. Back when we first got together I remember she was watching it with her two best mates. I came home drunk about 20 minutes from the end and ruined their girly night in entirely. The two mates both still bring it up about once a year I'd say.

Mrs loves it, I can take it or leave it... I usually leave it.

Has a few funny moments but the rest is terrible... I hate Jack Black.

The unfortunate news is they are starting a new one very soon... expect it in cinemas and your lass dragging you along 😂

Some contributors on this thread should stay well away from the Hallmark channel this month, unless they're trying to induce a stroke or cardiac episode.

Can't stand Love Actually or The Holiday, I'm aware I'm not exactly the demographic they were aiming for though. Jack Black is a pr*ck, can't bear to watch him in anything the unfunny bellwhiff!
