The end?

I wonder if, once Canada cut power to the US, the Americans will make a military threat - or worse?

What a time to be alive!

Don't draw too many conclusions from this ..... yet. The 30 day cease fire was part of Zelenskyy's peace plan that Russia had already rejected. In the full text the role of European partners is fixed. And whatever minerals the US thinks it may be getting .... it will be very limited indeed, as the choice stuff has already gone.

If they reject it at least makes them the bad guys to Trump and co

Yes. And if they accept, they will use the time to re-arm as much as possible and recruit more. However, there's a meeting in Paris today and tomorrow where stuff is being put in place. This ceasefire arrangement might prove more beneficial to Ukraine in the long run. Time.

As the Grand Fromage (as I have taken to calling him) wrote in one of his missives the other day....you'll see all sorts of stuff playing out diplomatically. But the die is set. 1991 boundaries. Russia will not agree to that unless forced to agree.

There'll be elements of that. Zelenskyy is also an astute politician ... and has a good relationship with the Saudi leadership ... there's more nuance to this. The US will Trumpet this as their doing of course. Note that Waitz and Rubio were far more conciliatory in their approach. There was no "you have no cards" b***ks. The smarter people in the US administration will have understood the implications of the Chinese deal and also of being cut out of Five Eyes and the Paris summit.

Canada to sell US Bonds. Gloves off.
Oh wow.

Just reading about this, but very unsure about the reliability of the contributor:

“The US bonds were seen as a safe place to park cash.

Canada has a substantial amount of US bonds. Cashing them could crash the US dollar leading to the US defaulting on its debt obligations.

Bigger issue is the 'soft power' implications of your largest trading partner no longer seing you as a safe place to park money.

Best case is the interst rate goes up to help payout those debt obligations.

Worst case it leads to a run on US bonds as other countries try to cash out their money. US enters into a depression like the 1930s.”

Interesting… possibly very interesting!
