The end?

From a man on a train.

"With the third airplane downed in as many days things are definitely improving.
There was a renewed focus on artillery with artillery duels raging for the last 36 hours in foremost Bilhorod.

It seems more and like Russia has decided to suicide on Kharkiv.
Blessed be the idiots if they do.
The reason I am saying this is that Russia amped up artillery preparations with an increase of 400 percent during the evening, and we see anomalous troop movements in all 3 Oblasts, with units moving into an attack posture towards Kharkiv.

This is the first time in military history that a smaller force (50K) is attacking a larger force (70K) to break through, and then going for a City of that size.
Snowballs have a larger chance to thaw in hell compared to Russia pulling this one off.

Beyond the 1st Combined Arms Army, there are also border defence units, and a massive network of defence lines in place, plus massive mine fields.
Behind those are drone artists waiting, and beyond that is a dense well equipped artillery firing line.

I am as you know surprised, I did not expect them to whack 50 000 ethnic Russians that come from Moscow and St Petersburg.
So far in the war those have been held back, and instead Russia has whacked diverse other ethnicities.
The horrible answer here is probably that they have started to run out of minorities to kill.

So, how much is 50K Russians?
To put it into perspective, the entire sector from Marinka down to Ocheretyne and onwards to Novomykhailivka held 50K soldiers.
And the only reason Russia managed to advance there is that Ukraine had a bad supply chain and a traitor.
Up near Kharkiv there's way more Ukrainian troops, kick **** logistics, and hopefully no traitor."

Is Surovikin still circling in his jet, because he can't have taken control yet, surely?

Forgive my ignorance here, and I hope feverntly it’s not significant, but mainstream news reports are stating that the RUs have broken through the Ukrainian defence lines. Is there any credence to this?

They broke through in one place about 2 weeks ago, but not since then as far as I know. Unless it's the Russian troops being kept as pets on the Chasiv Yar axis.

Post 2 above this questions this but might not be accurate.
There is more to this than what Borolad suggests.
I agree, i don't think things on the battlefield are as good for Ukraine as what is being made out. I appreciate additional assistance is on the way, but even with all the help they have had, Ukraine didn't make significant gains during the last offensive. I Hope I'm wrong but i can see Russia significantly pushing on in the coming months.
The information we receive from all sources, that is "good news", can be just as much propaganda as what we accuse Russia of spreading. Maybe this is why Macron mentions putting boots on the ground, they know without NATO getting directly involved, Ukraine won't/Can't win?

I'll try to get up to date news on this, but basically those Russian troops are walking into a huge army waiting for them. They are literally walking in because they have been sent with no motorised cover or transport. There were videos of them posted this morning. Bear i mind that the Free Russin lot went into that territory more or less unopposed not so long ago. Anyway, as I say, I'll relay news when I have it.... but Cherrycola is up in his homeland at the moment.

And in terms of what is good news and what is bad and what is propoganda ... Ukraine hit one of Russia's biggest refineries this morning, 600km from the front. That will be way more significant than Russian troops entering some small villages.

And as far as I am aware, the Russians have incurred huge losses making those small gains (around 1,300 men, plus tanks, APVs and Arty systems).

Any further news yet on when that bridge is going swimming?

Just got an answer. Yes, the Russians made small gains by pouring numbers into the area .... but the fighting is hard and many of them were killed. This is still some distance from the prepared Ukrainian zero line. ie. yes, undefended territory ... but the defences between there and Kharkiv. There will be reasons where defences were not made on the border... but some way inside Ukrainian territory.
