*The earlier-than-usual unofficial "Official" Coventry v Boro Matchday thread*

You can dress things up however you want, but the facts are:
1. That is an extremely poor result today.
2. We have now made a dreadful start to the season.

I have no idea what formation he wants to play, or what his idea of his first team is.

It is of course very early days and we are only 7 points off the top two, but Warnock is going to have to pull his finger out.
Playing a back three to accommodate McNair because he can't hold his own in a back 4 is not good.
Losing McNair pre match yet still keeping a back 5 is indicative of how little confidence he has in any two playing together and how exposed we are at LB without Bola.
Dijksteel as wing back is never ever going to work.
Putting Jones (our most dangerous attacking player so far) at wing back is a massive waste.

If we had come away with a win he would be entitled to stick the middle finger up, even a point.
But he got done 2-0 and gets no sympathy I'm afraid.
He asked earlier if Rob wanted to pick the team. Maybe he should have.
Can't disagree with any of that.....but the thing is, most of us would have had those same thoughts prior to the match, yet Warnock still picks that team

Anyone still wanting to give Warnock time? Managing to throw away yet another season extremely quickly. Just hope we dont wait until its too late to act but I expect we will

I honestly have no idea what direction we are going in.

We are stuck in middle of a transition of a transition with a new plan each week. I just don't see Warnock sticking with any player long enough for them to build confidence or rhythm.

It's a long season but it goes by quickly.

I don't think the recruitment is what Warnock would have wanted but it's been imposed on him. We have bought good skillful players but I get the impression he would have rather have seasoned championship battlers. Its almost as if NW has been forced to pick a team and play a different way to the style he would like purely because of the recruitment. Theres some real quality in this squad so as bad as we have started this season I am not too disheartened
Good to read an opinion that isn't an emotional knee-jerk!

The big question for me, and you touched on it, is whether NW can get the best out of this set of players.

People write him off as a long-ball manager, which isn't entirely fair, but he does like the ball playing forward quickly and players competing for the second ball.

His Cardiff team played decent football, no reason why we can't do the same.

Jesus folks, we're only six games in.
If it was 20 games I might agree.
Gives these new lads time to bed in.
Six games in, we're 15th.

Brushed aside by the ten men of QPR, often over run in midfield, barely laid a glove on Blackburn. One point and zero goals against relegation fodder Derby and Coventry.

Exactly the same level of performance and results since January as far as I'm concerned.

Three at the back doesn't work, Dijksteel can't play RWB, we look pi55 weak as a back four.

No cover at left back.

Not enough goals scored.

Barely any goals from midfield.

Barely any threat from set plays.

All of those things have been an issue since he reshaped the squad in his image at the turn of year.

He seems to have learned nothing during that run of games to help him rectify our woeful form.

i dont think weve thrown season away after 6 game, but must admit im very dissapointed at our start this season, thats for sure

Absolutely garbage. All that work in the transfer market and for what. No better than last season. Long way to go but I'm starting to wonder if Warnock has lost the plot?

We play wing-backs when we don’t have any orthodox wing-backs on the books. In fact the two orthodox wing-backs we did have on the books were both moved on this summer. If Woodgate or Monk did that then people would be fuming.

Warnock has brought 22-23 players in since he took over and is still nowhere near knowing his best shape or team. He’s still on about signing a couple of frees in the coming weeks. It’s laughable, IMO. If he wants to play with wing-backs then why didn’t he sign some?

For an ‘old school’ manager who likes to keep the game simple, it’s bizarre to see him complicating the team and playing players out of position every single week. We are a long way off the team we’d become at the start of the year. I always think the team plays in the image of its manager and this one has been losing its way for months.

We are in transition. Warnock is leaving at the end of the season and our recruitment has been a compromise between the needs of this season and the plan for the future.

Today, for me, the main problem was the formation. I don't understand why we played a back five. As others have mentioned neither Dijksteel nor Jones are "wing backs". Oddly Jones made a rather better fist of it than Anfernee but in doing so offered little threat in the opposition half. I remain unconvinced by Lumley as keeper without him doing much wrong today.

Hey ho.

Let's struggle for a few positives. Lea Siliki looked very calm on the ball though got caught a little with the pace of the game and the Cov midfield, nice touch and saw some good forward passes. I also thought Sprorar was busy, tidy and physical.

I think it was pretty obvious why we played a back five. We have no left back with Bola injured. Who are you playing at left back?
Defensively we have left ourselves in a right s**tstorm. We have one left back and one decent right back. Not a lot of depth at CB either.

I know Peltier doesn't "like" playing LB. So play Anfernee LB and Pelts RB mayb? Howson can and does play RB, I think he could play LB. Who plays LB for the U23s?

It's a mess if we have to play a 5 because Bola is unavailable.

He let the U23 left back, Jack Robinson, go out on loan along with the only two orthodox wing backs at the club. It’s Strachan-esque in many ways.

Coventry were good today and will be in no danger of relegation

2 men on the line and they let it run over both their feet. The whole of the defence just disappeared for 30 seconds!
I was watching at a family birthday party and as they attacked my nephew had a phone message of a goal a few seconds ahead of the action, so I knew they'd score
But despite knowing that my eyes were still telling me that 2 Defenders on the line with a shot straight at them surely can't conspire between them to let it in - it was that unbelievable

Random observations:
- Djiksteel is not a RWB.
- Tav had a mare
- thought Siliki and Sporar looked ok when they came on
- Warnock charging on at full time to have a go at ref is getting a bit boring
- fans were starting to turn today. Not a good sign

all summed up when siliki crossed nicely to Hall in acres of space and who proceeded to volley it high and mighty to god knows where.
