The Djed Spence hot potato

I think most fans were really excited and wanted him to do really well.. despite being hurt by his actions towards the club.. and therefore fans I think most still want him to turn it round and make a good go of it.
Nice to think so Newy. He is a young lad, which of us didn't make mistakes when we were younger. I mean I didn't but I believe most young people can be eejits

Not sure why anybody cares really. We got our money for him and he is off our books. It would be nice to see him turn this around and make the most of his obvious talent. He wouldn't be the first nor will he be the last to throw away his talent.
I think there was a bit of envy/regret that we'd loaned him out and he went and tore it up at Forest to the extent that they leapfrogged us and got promoted. Noises about how he was loving it and big time charlie photos of him having it large with a cigar rubbed it in. Then when he was due back, he left no doubt that he had no interest in playing for us again. Fair enough, Spurs were interested and he even snubbed his adored Notts Forest, but his general attitude towards the club who gave him a second chance stuck in people's craw.

I hope he gets his career back on track but the uber-professional attitude towards training etc in Italy makes me doubt he will any time soon...

Bamford was the messiah when he left with lots of fans clinging to the narrative that he was forced out of the club against his will by nasty Pulis and countless threads spanning many months.

Spence is the opposite. Other than takethe pee out of Warnock I’m not sure there is any concrete proof of anything too bad he has done.

He’s a young lad who has made some mistakes I’m sure but you’d think he’d stamped on an Orphan’s puppy the way some go on here.

Remember when Man U bought Gary Pallister for 2.3m at the age of 24, he went on to become Man Us most ever decorated player with 9 major trophies and we bought him back at the age of 33 for 2.5m. As far a stitch ups go up… we got done there!
To be fair he left for a record figure and returned long after transfer fees had gone barmy.

I think the I'll feeling comes from a recognition that he is incredibly fortunate to be blessed with the talent he has, yet seems to lack an appreciation of that, or any real sense of humility

Of course there's a little bit of guesswork here, but if something walks like a duck, talks like a duck and looks like a duck then it almost certainty is a duck.

Woodgate called out his attitude, as did Warnock, Cooper didn't push to sign him (despite how well he performed for him), as did Conte, as did Farke.

Postecoglou hasn't fancied him from the get go.

I think it's a pretty safe assumption that he lacks application.

He wouldn't talk to anyone but Spurs, which probably affected how much we got for him as it significantly weakened our negotiating position (along with the fact he made it clear he wasn't coming back). In hindsight still an amazing fee mind.

👆 It's this for me. Seemingly did it specifically to weaken our negotiating position. Was a perfect situation beforehand: a player we'd given plenty of chances to and really satisfied ourselves that he wasn't good enough and yet supposedly Arsenal, Spurs, Bayern, whoever were interested.

The stupid thing is he probably also weakened his own negotiating position on wages.

The guy just seemingly has no class and a big chip on his shoulder. Deleting any boro related stuff from his social media, bitterly trolling Warnock who gave him chance after chance and signed off his loan. Pitiful.

Bamford was excellent for us. Won EFL POTS in his first stint and then linking with Adama Traore dragged us up the league into the playoffs in his second.

Spence had a good month December 2019 for us and was then dreadful every other time he played. Honestly I don't understand how someone whos a boro fan could compare the two?

Even if you think Bamford insisted on his move and it wasn't what Pulis wanted, he was vindicated wasn't he? He got Leeds promoted and had a couple of good seasons in the prem. They only got relegated when his injuries started meaning he missed more than he played.

he should seek proffesional help as seems he has an issue with authority and rules .... could get tools to help him control

He really needs to grow up or it will have passed him by.

Plenty of talented players have been overlooked, in the past, in preference for reliability and team harmony.

I don’t disagree with how good Bamford was but there’s also an argument Spence was a massive part in Forest getting promoted too.

My point wasn’t comparing their ability just that as fans we don’t generally have the full picture of what is going on with players and their professionalism etc but that as fans if we like a certain player more there is a clear bias.
