The Crown/ABC Cinema

Andy Preston on Facebook has been saying that there will be an announcement soon on the future of the ABC. I wonder what he knows?

I was 15 in 2003 but looked about 21 - great at the time but I’m a 35 year old bloke going on 50 now! 🤣

I had my first pints in the Linny at 15. Think it was about £1.30 for an Ayingerbrau. Had 5 pints and left feeling leathered! 😆

I used to do all the rock nights in the main. Arena, Dickens, Crown and then latterly Cornerhouse / Empire.

The Crown was class though. No matter what day of the week, it was always a good fall back if a few “quiet ones” escalated - as they often did!

I barely bother with Boro now. Much prefer Stockton. Decent drinking hole if you avoid the s***holes!
 
The one possible good thing about the crown being transferred to MDC is that they might actually have or be able to get some money to restore it. The council certainly doesn’t so even if it’s a way of Houchen trying to buy votes it will hopefully be funded and we can then just hope the public see through it.

I’m never out that late tbh - I get nosebleeds after 11pm! 😆

We tend to go to the Micro’s - Golden Smog, Tipsy Turtle, Kopper Keg.

When we do our works Christmas night we always go to the finer establishments. The Stag, Reindeer etc. 😎
 
I used to love goldies

The period of zanzibar/glam doing double/treble your money vouchers was totally wild as I lived in walking distance of the high street so a £20 night out got you absolutely destroyed and have change for a pizza home. would come out of zanzi about 1am then go to either ku bar or goldies. I went to wobbly goblin once and that was enough

Frescos was great for trebles, as was Madison 50p alcopops

When I ran nights at the arena we didn't open until 11, we'd go to jumpin jaks think it was £8 in all you can drink, until 10:30 I think? used to hammer about 7 million drinks then just before the time ran out we'd gather up empties, exchange them at the bar and walk out clinking into a taxi down to the arena

What year did you run nights at the Arena?
 
Just had a brief look at the Masterplan and Constitution of MDC . I'm not sure the word "Middlesbrough" should be in the title given the geographical scope of the corporation, and it does seem to be somewhat removed from democratic accoutability.

the arena? It 100% did. When I say I don't know specific dates I mean to the week. I ran a rock night there for years called Trashed after blaises closed, and had Dobson ran an indie night called needle damage. There was several other nights too, we had a short lived student night called kandy that we stopped because someone got glassed, and there was several DnB nights

Arena was after walkabout on a Friday night! Take advantage of that 7am closing time.
