The Coral

I’ve always loved their records and saw them live supporting the Manics a couple of years ago. Blimey, they were boring!

Dreaming of You a great song though.

Really?! I've seen them live and always enjoyed the shows! Maybe it was a bad night

I noticed a few music threads tonight so I thought I'd chip in!

Is anyone a fan of the Coral, I think they are brilliant and so underrated. I've been listening to them loads lately and I'm absolutely addicted to 1000 years, its so hypnotic.

They're playing an acoustic gig in Yarm in October as well 👍🏻

Its not really a full gig. And its an awful venue. Would have gone though but will be watching Marc Almond in York that night. The Coral are a superb band though. Live and on record.

An Intimate Evening of music and conversation with singer James Skelly and keyboardist Nick Power.
The Coral are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their eponymous debut album. The record was described by NME as being the funniest and most refreshing British debut in years.
In this intimate evening, singer and songwriter James Skelly will be joined by keyboardist Nick Power for an evening of conversation, audience questions and acoustic songs.
The Coral’s eponymous debut album remains a totemic release. Sonically unique, wilfully leftfield and thrillingly eclectic, The Coral combined psychedelia with dub, disco groove with pop and ragtime with Egyptian reggae on a remarkable debut that has proved to be timeless.
Twenty years on, that records sounds as fresh and remarkable as it did when it was released on 29th July 2002.
• An exclusive CD featuring acoustic songs played on this tour will be available to ticket-buyers after the show at a cost of £5, via post. Details of how to claim will be available at the show.

Brilliant band, yeah. I still think Manchester on balance has the best bands but funny how Liverpool still has that totally unique sound, so many scruffy bands with that skiffle/psychedelia thing. Something in the water there.

I'm going to the gig/talk in Yarm. Hoping more of an acoustic gig and less talk. The PAA is a great venue especially for something like this.

Great band and one of those early 00s bands that I never got bored with and still listen to now.

Not sure why you would think Yarm is a terrible venue? Thoroughly enjoyed various shows there. Looking forward to this one too.

Been to about half a dozen shows there and when they first started putting on bands they had no bar facilities just a table with warm bottles of drink. Another show after they had got a bar sorted they closed it at 8:30 as they said there was not enough people using it. Granted the show was sparsely attended but 8:30. Plus I think its a pretty souless place, awkward to get to(i come from Redcar) and a bit out of the way from Yarm itself.
But like I said I would have been at thgis Coral show if I was not in York on same night.

I love The Coral too. Probably more a fan of the early albums; recent releases have been good rather than great, at least up to Coral Island, which is a real return to form.

Love the coral and agree, totally underrated band, Skelly a legend and I understand a bit of a mentor to a lot of the break through bands from Liverpool.

So many good songs - Simon Diamond my under the radar favourite.
