What is Classic Rock I ask myself occasionally. It seems like a term that's crept in fairly recently and seems like it can mean almost any type of rock music, it seems like a surplus label to me.

I think I understand the term classic rock. But when did the term AOR (Adult Orientated Rock) come in. What is it? Is it rock that's not as heavy as newer metal band but not classic rock yet.

I first heard AOR about 35-40 years ago iirc.
