The Case for Steve Round (Assistant)

Neither was I. I was appalled by his appointment.

But we have to get behind the whole team and I’ll be doing that. Would Steve Round bring more to the table than Woodgate - I’m sure he would. He’s an educated professional.

Woodgate isn’t necessarily the problem. I doubt he is.
No, he’s probably not the main problem but nor is he much of a solution.

Probably not the main problem?
Definitely not as he was here last year when we had success. If he was any problem at all.. he’d be gone!

Nor is he much of a solution.
-not much.. but a bit of a solution.. to a problem you’re not sure of.

New players thrown in at the deep end having to adapt to a new system, new teammates.. getting up to speed in terms of fitness.

I agree with that.

I’d rather Woodgate wasn’t in the role, but I think you’re quite right.

Not so sure with the parochial Mr Gibson.

One of the main problems for me is that Carrick needed an experienced coach to support and develop him.

Instead he got Woodgate, that’s why Woodgate is a problem.

But he suited last season when we nearly got promoted.. that is why he isn’t the problem.

Happy for Neil Warnock to come in and give the lads a bit of a hand!

What was it specifically that he did last season that didn’t suit you?
As I’m getting bored with stating I wanted an experienced coach to come in to develop and support a keen but inexperienced Carrick.

Carrick benefited from an extremely effective, free scoring Akpom who carried the team and we were all delighted to see it.

However, as soon as he faced significant challenges he didn’t seem to have any answers, that is when I would like to have seen him benefit from an experienced mentor, not matey Woody.

Carrick benefitted from a fully settled squad.. up to speed with the league and he benefitted from a top to bottom analysis of the squad and it’s players.. 17 games onto the season.. also a trial run of his principles.

Defensively we seem poor at quickly spoting trouble. I don't know enough to say if that can be coached into players.

Also not making life as difficult as it should be for the opposition when they have the ball in our half. It seems like our players have been told not to press as much as other teams do.

Would love to know why Round left Arsenal without having another job. Got to be a story there. I've heard he's not a particularly likeable chap.
