For a staggeringly expensive £54000.

I mean, I know the FUD army will use the "EV are too expensive" line now that the rang argument has been put to bed but in this case EV are too expensive.

Even as a Tesla owner I find it odd how people are more 3xc8ted about this than, say a Kia EV6

The Kia is a nice looking car.
I'm starting to look at electric but i'm just not quite sure there's anything out there that quite ticks the boxes for what i need yet in terms of a family car for hauling bikes and camping gear etc around.

Ioniq 5 (the sister of the kia) is a damn fine car. And it's pretty huge. Hyundai are really switched on with their new ev platform

I guess it depends on what you consider the competition is.

The Kia and Hyundai both look fantastic; the Koreans are well on their way to crossing over into the mainstream like the Japanese did 30 or so years ago.

An EQC starts at about £65K and an iX3 at just below £60K.

Tesla will continue to sell well while their Superchargers remain ahead of the other electric charging infrastructure.

Given the size and build quality I would say the competition is the Korean guys. Even then those ones are much bigger, you certainly get more car for your money. The Merc and BMW are tough. Build quality and equipment they will be much much better but they haven't started taking EV seriously enough yet

I don't disagree with that from the point of view of someone who is actively interested in the technology and where it is going, plus the great styling (I'd definitely take one of the Korean cars if I was in the market for one), but there's no getting away from the fact that a lot of people think 'Tesla' when they think electric. I live just outside of London and there's gazillions of Model 3's.

They'll market it as a competitor to the BMW and Merc and they will be helped in some way by those marques marketing their models against the Tesla. It seems like massive range is something the manufacturers aren't looking towards achieving and the charging infrastructure is going to be key. It's getting better generally but Tesla are perceived to be ahead of the game in that respect. The initial 'free' charging was one hell of a starting gambit.

Yeah we need to start changing perceptions. People think Tesla ARE EV you’re correct. We need to got people to realise that electric vehicles are simply “vehicles”
EQS aside you’re right, range isn’t of importance to EV manufacturers because the simple fact is, range isn’t important. Despite what the FUD army will constantly discuss. Charging infrastructure and especially destination/street charging are the way to go in the future. Essentially people need to grasp the concept that the cars should just recharge wherever you are going.
It’s hilarious to me that people keep telling me how inconvenient having an EV is. Then they make a specific journey to a place they aren’t going to, get out of the car and refuel. It won’t be long before we realise that this is the inconvenient bit and once destination charging improves we’ll think it ridiculous to interupt a journey to refuel a vehicle

Im getting a Polestar 2 in a weeks time. Test drove a few and for me this was the best for the price......posrsche was nice but way too overpriced. Plus there are hardly and Polestars around which I like

I love the Polestar 2. Especially the light bar at the back. As someone who usually dislikes small crossovers I like it and the XC40 on which it is based. Android automotive looks brilliant too.

The build quality is pretty good now, maybe not 3 or 4 years ago, but they've resolved a lot of the issues that come from being a growing company without the experience needed to compete at a more premium end.
Mines a year old and it's poor.

I understand the ones made in China are better and assume Berlin will churn out decent cars when it's operational. But Tesla really are hype over substance
