Televised games - announcement schedule

And Sky Sports and the EFL will make good on a landmark new commitment for clubs and fans which will provide longer notice periods on TV selections. The notice periods for selections are as follows:

  • Within seven days of the 2024/25 fixture release selections shall be made in respect of all matches to be played before the end of September
  • Before the start of the season, selections shall be made in respect of all matches scheduled to be played prior to the end of the third round of the FA Cup in January
  • By November 1, selections shall be made in respect of all matches to be played between the end of the third round proper of the FA Cup and the first weekend of March
  • Selections for matches scheduled after the first weekend in March will be made on a four-week rolling basis starting from February 1 (e.g. a selection for the first weekend in April will be selected in the first weekend in March)

Really. really disappointing and perhaps a reality check for fans for the season ahead - within the first month of fixtures Boro involved in two 12.30 kick offs against clubs that are based between 5-6 hours away.

Cardiff at 12:30 is like both the Swansea game a few seasons back and that crazy Sunday 12:30 KO against Brighton [I think it was in the Prem?].

It was always going to happen with the increased TV deals. Look at other sports reliant on TV money.

No point in moaning now though, the writing was well and truly on the wall when the deadly deal was done a while back.
We did about half all of the away games last season but can't see us getting near that this season with all the changed kickoff times.

For me we shout loud now to try and influence the next announcement.

But who will listen and represent the fans?
Were fans even consulted over the sky deal and it's ramifications?
I'm not knocking your efforts Rob, but I'm not sure how Sky can be properly challenged. There certainly have been enough fan protests (banners and chants) in the past seasons, but seemingly not listened to.

Is it even Sky who should be blamed? It’s the EFL who sell them the rights with, seemingly, carte Blanche to play the matches whenever they want. Sky are doing what any broadcaster would do and picking the matches they want for the non-3pm slots.

Sky also don’t control the fixture list itself.

Surely it’s the EFL who should be complained to.

A complete boycott would surely make an impression.
What could make a difference I suppose is an Independent Regulator - that would come in once the Football Governance Bill is passed by whatever government is elected in today.
They have to address situations that affect fans.

True, but Sky would hate having an empty away end.
