Teesside to Amsterdam flights

Does anyone have any info on the klm flights . I used to fly regular pre covid and the flights were daily with several flight times . It now looks like they are once a day on and off and none of the early red eye flights so popular with business travellers .

Any knowledgable bods out there on any updates?

At the moment the current times and frequency they have one iis not overly appealing as the red eye flights are what made it attractive v Newcastle who seem to still have an array of flights daily to Amsterdam.

Given the early morning flight was rammed and supposedly one of their most profitable routes I’m wondering if this is a slow withdrawal by klm.

Making travelling with work a tight pain without it

I’m in the same boat, having to get the 06:00 from Newcastle (moving to 05:55). I stayed over last week to get an extra hour and a bit in bed.

They were talking about April before extra services were restored, possibly be start of 3rd quarter now.

I've given up on the early KLM from Teesside now. Been getting the early flight out of Newcastle for a while now with a night in the Double Tree next to the terminal beforehand. I quite like doing it.

if that’s the case I’m gutted as I could be up and on the plane in less than an hour before . Travelling to Newcastle for a red eye is a killer .

That will be a big setback for the Teesside travellers as the early flight and late night flight back was always full

I've booked my Mum on one in May for the first leg of her journey to visit. I'm always concerned that KLM will pull out of DVT but when I did some digging online there was talk of them increasing the flights. Not sure now.

All I can say is they are not bloody cheap. They used to be but now is it better to drive to Manchester and fly over. Barking since we last flew was in Dec 2019. Teesside to Japan was £450 each from teesside via Schipol. We just tried to book a long weekend to Amsterdam in a few weeks time, nearly 200 each from MME. Bonkers

They won’t be pulling out any time soon, they’re just not prepared to put the flights on without the cost being covered. The Newcastle red eyes are always full and also the return legs later in the day.

I can only assume they think that we will not fill a large amount of the flight . Weird considering they were rammed before

suspect they were getting a fat subsidy off Houchen before

Rather fly from leeds, £100 pp with 4 of us going pretty much pays for our Airbnb, making teesside flights a tough sell at 200 notes

Would love to use Teesside but flights from Newcastle and Leeds are much cheaper and better flight times.

Even as passenger numbers dropped at Teesside, the Amsterdam flight was great, in terms of value, connectivity and flight times.

We’ve spent £110m of tax payer money, given a big chunk of it to the private sector and actually lost the single decent flight we had.

See similar for Aberdeen - though it was always fits and spurts. The addition of the London flight is good but will disappear as the subsidy drops.

I think the airport acquisition will go down as a disaster when we look back on it in the future.

Yes, we've had a couple of years of Houchen photo opportunities and self promotion, yet the first time i needed to fly from there I had to travel to Newcastle for the KLM flight.

The airport website appears to suggest a flight everyday except Tuesday, yet as far as I can see there is only one flight out on a Monday and one flight back on a Friday.
I had to use Manchester for my travel.

It’s rubbish at the moment as one of the main benefits of klm was the ability to get on an early flight and then connect within an hour or so of landing to another flight.

Now that is gone so it’s either get up at stupid o clock to drive to Newcastle or go the night before but as a lot of people may want to travel on a Monday that means spending your Sunday night or indeed any night away from home .

If the klm slot is lost alongside Aberdeen then they’ve lost their workhorses and I fear for the 365 day use age

Correct, only Monday's and Friday's. I was booked to fly out of Teesside three weeks ago but it was cancelled, I ended up flying from Newcastle the next day, but at least KLM reimbursed me for the taxi. My return is next Monday to Teesside. Hopefully it's not cancelled again.

Bloody hell. I flew from Teesside to Bergen weekly at one point and the KLM flights were brilliant and usually full. In fact, it wasn't unusual for the Schiphol to Teesside flight at 4pm on Friday to be overbooked.

That was in the doom days of Peel as well when there was naff all at the airport. There were only two connections but Aberdeen and Amsterdam always well used.

As mentioned, it looks to be heading for a disastrous decision from Houchen, but I hope that's not the case.

I tweeted Teesside airport and their response was they are aware it’s popular and working on it . There must be more to it as the Teesside flights are always busy, as much as the Newcastle flight and only 2 years ago Teesside had upto 3 a day

Red eye flights are overnight flights, usually eastbound. Usually they take off in the evening and arrive the following morning.

Early morning flights are not red eyes.
