During the war they lit fires in buckets in straight lines on the top of the moors to fool the Germans it was the airport - they dutifully bombed it, the craters are still there. You can google the detail, but if you work for Siemens or Bosch I’d leave this one alone 🤐

The body of a Native American, Moses Carpenter, is buried in Linthorpe Cemetery. Carpenter was a member of the Mohawk tribe and was born in Ontario, Canada in 1854; his birth name was Ska-Run-Ya-Te. In 1889, he visited Middlesbrough as part of a travelling show, where he tragically died of a fever.

Middlesbrough has a town in America named after it. Middlesboro is the largest city in South East Kentucky.

Boro’s old Ayresome Park ground featured in the 35th edition of the Guinness Book of Records – not for football, but for being the home of the largest reported advertising hoarding, which was painted on the roof of the North Stand by sponsor Heritage Hampers
