This is shamelessly nicked from facebook but I think Mayor Houchen should stick to the PlusNet adverts.
Particularly the Tory votersIt seems to be working for the railways.
Lots of energy companies are wishing they were nationalised now
Nobody complained when the banks were nationalised
It’s not completely unrealistic if they can add enough routes considering the restricted travel over the last year, although it may be unlikely.I think we just need to accept that it will continue to lose money and that the taxpayer will foot the bill. A 7 fold increase in footfall in the next 4-5 years seems like pie in the sky (or not) though.
The 7 fold is based on pre pandemic figures. 2019 saw 150k passengers. It’s not completely unrealistic if they can add enough routes considering the restricted travel over the last year, although it may be unlikely.
I think it’s ok for some level of operating loss if it contributes enough to the local economy to make up for it. What that level is, I have no idea. People will continue to use it as a stick to beat Houchen and his party with though, despite the fact that Labour also wanted it to remain open and would surely have suffered the same criticisms if their candidate had been elected to the role. The alternative is another business park and a housing estate.
I agree - if the good people of Teesside are happy to do that then fine, its a community assetI think we just need to accept that it will continue to lose money and that the taxpayer will foot the bill. A 7 fold increase in footfall in the next 4-5 years seems like pie in the sky (or not) though.
You're not going to get central funding I would think. Otherwise every airport will demand support.I agree - if the good people of Teesside are happy to do that then fine, its a community asset
If its central govt money then even better
