Teesside airport £10m bailout while operator departs

I think we just need to accept that it will continue to lose money and that the taxpayer will foot the bill. A 7 fold increase in footfall in the next 4-5 years seems like pie in the sky (or not) though.
It’s not completely unrealistic if they can add enough routes considering the restricted travel over the last year, although it may be unlikely.

I think it’s ok for some level of operating loss if it contributes enough to the local economy to make up for it. What that level is, I have no idea. People will continue to use it as a stick to beat Houchen and his party with though, despite the fact that Labour also wanted it to remain open and would surely have suffered the same criticisms if their candidate had been elected to the role. The alternative is another business park and a housing estate.

short of money? I was there yesterday evening picking son in law up from Amsterdam flight.21 minutes I was there and had to pay five pounds to get out of car park..

The 7 fold is based on pre pandemic figures. 2019 saw 150k passengers.

I booked my first flights for Teesside/ Heathrow and onward travel to Romania for work. I would normally use KLM via Schiphol but they did not have the morning flights on as they used to.
I got everything sorted then I got an e-mail to tell me the flight back from Heathrow to Teesside on the Friday had been cancelled. No explanation as to why it was cancelled and no alternative travel options given. I ended up getting the train to Luton and then Wizz air to Romania. £650 cheaper than the Teesside journey even with the train thrown in. However it took me 14 hours travel to get back against the original 7 hours with the Teesside flights.
I have had the travel company check other trips for me and already a future flight from Heathrow to Teesside is not planned to happen so they are looking at a either a train or driving to Manchester.

This scenario does not give me confidence that I can trust the travel from Teesside to Heathrow. If KLM put the flights back on for the early morning then i would be happy to use them.

I agree - if the good people of Teesside are happy to do that then fine, its a community asset

If its central govt money then even better
