His assists stat would've been a lot better if it wasn't for the awful finishing of our forwards
exactly. It is very fashionable at present to counter the counter and press high up the pitch with attacking players. Judging Tavs output on Goals and Assists is shows a nieve and immature outlook to football.Think this demonstrates one of, if not the biggest thing that makes him such a key player (and why he's caught the eye of premier League clubs despite modest scoring stats up till now).
It's rare for an attack minded midfielder, one who's comfortable in possession, can beat a man, carry the ball effectively etc to also be so good at doing the dirty work too. Helps massively with the balance of the team between attack and defence.
Think I've previously likened him to an all-rounder in cricket. Gives the manager more options having someone good at both sides to the game.
Lads an all rounder
I see him exactly the same as you mate. We are lucky to have him and think he’s going to be even better this season, he’s key to any success we may haveThink this demonstrates one of, if not the biggest thing that makes him such a key player (and why he's caught the eye of premier League clubs despite modest scoring stats up till now).

A great player that is very average in possession?Great player who suits our number 8 position well, but lacks a footballing brain. In possession he is a very average footballer.
agreed and lets be honest if he has a stella season scoring the goals he should and people put away the chances he creates, we could sell him for a lot more than 10mLads an all rounder
Absolutely. Win win all round for me, if we’re promoted we have a top player to help us in the premier league and he can get better and better with us and if not and he still has a good individual season we will sell him on and wish him well.agreed and lets be honest if he has a stella season scoring the goals he should and people put away the chances he creates, we could sell him for a lot more than 10m
I'm not surprised, but I wouldn't sell, not even for £20m, I don't think we have much to gain by selling him now and would really struggle to replace him.View attachment 41462
Just seen this in the Hartlepool Mail, I think it was published yesterday though, so I apologise if this has already been posted.
I agree, as long as he is happy to stay then unless we got an offer we couldn't refuse then I see little benefit in selling him this season. But overall the media links from Prem clubs on some of our players should be taken as a positive sign as we are obviously doing something right for these players to be brought to the attention of the media and Prem clubs.I'm not surprised, but I wouldn't sell, not even for £20m, I don't think we have much to gain by selling him now and would really struggle to replace him.
I expect this to be his big breakout year now he has a decent manager and someone half decent playing on the left of him, which will give the team more balance and let him attack more.
Whatever we can get for him now, we would likely get more for him next year, either way and probably little chance of getting less.
The only benefit I can see to selling, if we did get £20m is that it could add £10m into the striker pot, and then we would need to spend that remaining £10m on a midfielder and really hope it pays off, we couldn't really take much of a gamble on the latter, and would probably need someone proven or it could be pretty much season over.
Tav is an all round player not just an attacking player. He scored 5 and assisted 5, but chances created was in the top 10 in the championship. He did his part, his team mates fluffed their lines. In the brutal world of football, if a forward player does not score or assist on a regular basis he is not doing what he is paid for. Tav fit that bill.
If you see ALL his stats, not just the most absolute basic ones of which one isn't under his control entirely anyway (assists), then you are really not being honest n your analysis. If all you see is a spreadsheet of stats you are really missing an awful lot. Coaches use stats as an aid to performance analysis not a measure of it (or at least the clued up ones do)
Lies, damned lies and statistics innit?
Tav is our main asset, our crown jewel, lets hope we can take him to the PL.
