Tavernier - Goalscoring Stats

18 goals in his entire career at the club. He first made his debut under Monk, nearly a third of them were last season. IMO he’s a great player with much energy who gives a lot to the team out of possession, but with a bid of £15 Million plus a decent sell on clause and I’d take that. Great player who suits our number 8 position well, but lacks a footballing brain. In possession he is a very average footballer. Puts it into perspective when Crooks has had 8 less goals last season than Tav has had in his whole career at the club. 135 games, 18 goals, 18 assists. Especially when the likes of Gibbs-White, Lewis-Potter and Swift all had nearly that same amount just last season alone. Again, I’m a massive fan of the lad, but I believe that with that money we could invest in a player with great potential, UTB. Also we shouldn’t be selling Payero🤷‍♂️

He should definitely score more, don't get me wrong. But I strongly disagree he doesn't have a football brain. Yes, room for improvement in decision making in the final third and in finishing.

However he's usually heavily involved in our build up play, his off the ball movement is excellent and he's brilliant at pressing. That last part is partly down to his fitness but you can't press effectively if you can't read the game or understand the team instructions. You'd just look like a dog chasing cars. Or Tuncay....

He has potential dont get me wrong, but if he doesn’t hit double figures in the league in both G+A, then it’s a disappointing season for him if I’m honest mate…
Okay, clear bait but I’ll bite. How many players in the championship got 10 goals and assists last season

One of the first names on the team sheet for me - having said that, if he isn’t signing a new deal he should be sold …..

In the brutal world of football, if a forward player does not score or assist on a regular basis he is not doing what he is paid for. Tav fit that bill.
yes but just because someone doesn't get an "assist" tick next to his name doesn't neccasarily mean he didn't contribute to the goal.

Jones might get the "assist" from down the right but crooks and dijksteel contribute

He has a very good football brain. Tactically in and out of possession he is superb and haven’t seen many better in the division at what he does. Maybe O’Brien from Huddersfield is only the one comparable.

Tav has it in him to score More goals than he did last season and I think a full season with Wilder football in his favoured position which he is now mastering should allow him to do that. Was easily our best player in the second half of the season which was a bit up and down for the squad

it's not fantasy football! There are many more metrics to measure a players contributions to a team
Especially here at Boro, where running your @$$ into the ground is weirdly held in higher regard than contributions like goals and assists, most don’t care if you’ve not contributed any goals or assists, so long as you run 12 miles a game and never pull out of a tackle.

Gibbs White, Wilson, Swift, Johnson, Billing and Patterson for Swans got 9+9. Carvalho got 10+8. As I say he’s a great player who does contribute massively to our team, but the goalscoring and creation contribution to our team is average. Great out of possession, but for 15M I’d snap the hands off a Prem team. Hope he’s proven me wrong as I am a massive fan, but he should be aiming for double digits👍

Contract until 2024 so no need to sell unless Tav himself wants to go.
If he stays great , if he wants to go, £12m minimum should be the starting price.
Players come and go so see what happens in the next month or so.

18 goals in 117 starts isn't bad, I mean that's a goal every 6.5 starts.

I think there's a lot more to come from him though.

He should be scoring more and he gets into the positions. But a major weakness in his game for me is his lack of composure. He never seems to learn he doesn't need to thrash it( usually whilst leaning back)

But then if he had that composure he's be playing at a higher level.

A decent player who's very much one of the 'main men' in Wilders side. He clearly doesn't get some of the credit he deserves. I'm not sure why folk want us to sell one of our best players?

Spence yes. Tav? Seems strange as pretty much one of the first on the team sheet. So we get 10mil. Then we have to buy a replacement. I'd love to know who people thinks 'better' and available / affordable?

One the subject of the thread. I do agree he should score more. He got into some terrific positions last year and key moments. He doesn't just miss... Often misses by yards😂. I think he just needs to slow things down infront if goal. Always seems a bit rushed.

Let's be honest goal scoring as a whole from CBs to CFs has been an issue for 5 or 6 years. I'd argue longer. So it's not all on Tav.
