Tav forced the move ......?

I think it was pretty obvious that was the case when we accepted such a relatively low offer.

We'd definitely have held out for more if we weren't wanting to sell and Tavernier wasn't trying to force it through.

I still don't blame Tav for wanting to test himself in the Premier League though.

If he had 3/4 years left and we had just signed a couple of strikers so we looked in a better position to get promoted this year, i think we could argue with Tav the time wasn't right, give us a year, etc but i think he probably feels like the time is right to go, and while i disagree with it i think he sees them as a better prospect for his career. He gets a year to prove himself and if they get relegated, he'll come down and be in a team probably favourites to go back up, or he'll hope his year there has done enough to earn him another move. Who knows. Money talks, the PL talks, his brother having loads of success in Scotland while he's done nowt talks etc.

Well on Monday Wilder apparently told people at the meet the manager event that Tav hadn't asked to leave "but everyone has a price".

I know that's an off the record quote, reported third hand, but I don't see any reason not to think it wasn't said. On that thread on Monday plenty of people who went had the chance to say he didn't say it.

Which begs the question why are "club officials" saying one thing and Wilder telling fans basically the complete opposite?

Odd.

Well Wilder said a couple of days ago that Tav hadn't asked to move, so that's some very quick "forcing" by him to get it pushed through a day or two later.

Not signing a new contract when there's interest in you, and forcing a move are two completely different things

Wilder did say that, but I suppose at the same time, it's not Wilder that is running transfers.

He'd already said he leaves it to the recruitment team, Gibson, Scott and Bausor for incomings, it could be the same for outgoings.

Tavernier may never have spoken to Wilder about wanting to leave, but his agent could well have made his intent clear to the club.

Anbd the club didn't tell Wilder? Seems a bit far fetched

Happens all the time where players are sold from underneath managers.

I agree that it seems unlikely that Wilder was unaware of the ongoing situation, but that offer had been on the table from Bournemouth for a while.
Doesn't take long to accept when Tav made his intent obvious.

A lot can happen in 2 days.

Not having this b***ks to him crap. Whilst I am disappointed he’s chose to leave us for a smaller club, he has been persuaded by premier league football and premier league money. It could well be a short sighted decision and he may of been advised poorly.

However, the lad was available all the time, gave his absolute maximum in everything he did and even had a very good pre season. So however hard he was pushing for this he no doubt was a professional in training and on the pitch. He’s a very good player and I’m gutted he’s gone but time to move on now and re invest best we can. Good Luck Tav. Go get us them add ons.

Gazette putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with the answer they think suits? Not signing a new deal and forcing a move are not necessarily the same thing. Tav may have been happy to see out his contract?

Its a much better prospect for his career. Stay with us an play Championship football with no guarantees of us being anywhere near the top or play in the Prem week in week out. And if it all goes t*ts and assuming he has a solid enough season, he'll get another move. Its a no-brainer for me. I just cant understand the opinions of those who think he would have been better staying. Its crazy.

I find it hard to believe that it would have been kept from Wilder. It would be ridiculous for them to operate like that (so as it's Boro, definitely possible then).

He might not be running transfers but he definitely has input. If he's not meeting with Scott on pretty much a daily basis at this stage of the summer I'd be very surprised.

yes of course, happens all the time, but that's more just about a club accepting an offer. Not telling a manager a player wants to leave would be a whole other unlikely scenario

He may or may not of wanted to go. Can’t see why he wouldn’t want to, premier league football, better money, done his bit here, fancies a change, we have 14 outfield players etc…

The response was bad from fans last night so the gazette have been told to blame the player, it’s what we do.

Good luck to him, he’s been 100% effort and that’s all you can ask really.

The Gazette will have been told to print this by the club.
