Takeaway Prices

Takeaways eaten at home is something people could cut back on.

I don't want to sound like Lee Anderson, but even with the cost of energy used and ready meals , cooking at home must be less than half of the price.

When I worked long hours (8 years ago) I used to get a Chinese as a treat and I would drop in on the way home, but it was £6.50 now probably £12. It was quick and almost addictive and gone in 15 minutes. Not much cleaning up, but I spend that money eating out now at lunch time after a morning walk.

Wouldn't say lazy, it's just readily available and easier for some people.
I am a fantastic cook if I do say so myself, but even I am tempted now and again to get a takeaway. I do love cooking though.
Totally agree with this. I am a half decent cook and make an authentic masala sauce and freeze portions, but sometimes like last night, I just couldn't be bothered to cook. Not lazy just couldn't be ar$ed.

The energy companies have a lot to answer for, this country is a rip off in all aspects.
Starts at the top with the greedy elite.
Let's not get into politics though 🤫.

That's prerty much what I do, I batch cook on my days off, curries, chineses, Italian pizza dough I freeze them and have fakeaways when we fancy them, all other days its usually chicken with a carb and salad or a dinner.

Food Palace Thornaby is my go to place 3 all-in-one trays add a pot of curry or can of pop to take the order to £18 (unless its gone up since ive last been) and you get free spring rolls and prawn crackers too

Limited menu but has what we eat from a chinese on it (the all in one tray - you can pay extra for curry sauce separate on the dishes that include a sauce)

This came before energy costs, I think it's related to just eat and the like inserting themselves as the middle layer.

Uber eats takes about 30% of the cost of an order, deliveroo 20-25% and just eat 14%+50p

Add to that cost of living inflation, fuel, energy, wages etc but the main driver for it was just eat imo. Used to alway order takeaway and over a set amount was usually free delivery, and was nothing like £20 odd. You'd always get free stuff thrown in big orders too and it's a long time since we've had that (prawn crackers hardly count!)

I agree with above about the value of a Chinese, it's always in a tiny bag and I wouldn't reheat takeaway rice personally. Other takeaways seem more substantial and easier to reheat - with the advent of air fryers making heating leftovers absolute child's play, it's often a no brainer to go a size up for a small amount more and have it the next day too.

It's in moon money but this highlights it; also shows how much we get ripped off as 14 CAD is about £8, that was 2020 but just googled it and it's now 17.99 CAD which is £10.40, at Teesside park a large pizza is about £28

I wouldn’t class the pizza size thing as getting ripped off either really. The labour costs and their overhead costs are the same regardless of pizza size, so you’re only really paying for the extra ingredients plus a bit of profit.

You see it with loads of other things like half / full parmos, half pounder / quarter pounder burgers etc

I don’t mind paying a bit more if it is good quality. Struggle is finding somewhere that is good quality.

Istanbul Grill in Marske is always putting prices up but they are the best in the area by a long way for me. Avoid high street / town centre takeaways like the plague.

The wife and I have a monthly Indian takeaway, it’s gone up over a tenner in the last 2 years. From £25 to £36.

Thats the problem around here. Bar a couple of decent quality places we're stuck with stacks of low quality pizza and parmo outlets.

PS. I'm not being disrespectful to the parmo :)

4theweekend is the best round here at the moment for me.

£8.50 for a “half” parmo which easily feeds two of us. Cracking chips too 😍

It’s actually only £2 more to make it a full parmo but it would just be a waste

Chinese, Indian and fish and chip shop prices are through the roof, local pizza shops appear to be not so expensive.
Just as cheap to eat out than eat in now. But then the bar tab kicks in.

Pizza Pan at acklam used to do a small parmo for £5-6 which was an ideal size

Pizza Pan at Acklam do the Godfather deal which is large Parmo, 10" Pizza, Kebab and extra portion of chips for around £12.99 Good deal for if you're feeding the family.
