Take a meter reading today...

Give it a few months and they will be bragging about the profit they have made, while people either keep warm or go without food. Going back to the 70's and coin meters.
they're probably losing money because of the price cap. Energy costing more to purchase than they can charge for it. Many of them have gone bust, taking people jobs and livelihoods with them. Any making profits will have other revenue streams eg BG has hive, boiler sales, warranties etc

What information exactly is it we are supposed to be taking a picture of, and for what will this “evidence” be used?

eter readings for today

To submit a meter reading

People think that without it you will be charged a fortune more

Reality is probably not a lot difference as they would estimate based on usage, or you could have done it yesterday or you could do it tomorrow.

Do you know if you are on fixed or variable rate atm and do you have a smart meter?

If you're not on a fixed deal then prices tonight go up 54%

If you are on a fixed deal no matter

If you have a smart meter then no matter it sends readings for you

If you don't have a smart meter you can give a meter reading to show what your usage was at as of today in theory locking your March usage in at the old price and starting afresh with the new prices

Meter readings usually done online or via app

If you don't normally give readings and so t have a smart meter then your bills are probably estimated until they send a reader over and correct them.

I’m on a smart meter, top up £50 as and when. Thanks for your help with this mate I’m a bit is a useless old fuddy with things like this

It's a joke that BP can earn money from some oil fields at $20 a barrel yet despite oil being over $100 the Tory Government refuses to implement a windfall tax. I'm seem to remember even ultra-neoliberal George Osborne even applied a windfall to O&G the last time they were making billions in profit.

Anyone with Octopus has until midnight on Saturday apparently as their prices aren’t increasing till then (or so I am told)
Correct, as stated by them on the BBC website, plus have upto 1 week to enter the meter reading. So it's a bit like all the panic buying of toilet rolls, the fuel issue etc when Covid first hit no need to all rush at once
