Support for Scottish Independence hits 58%

Noone in Scotland has a proper plan in regards to how a country whose economy is based on dwindling oil supplies, fish and tourism is going to survive outside the Union - but that hasn't stopped them.

TBF it's not like there's any prominent Westminster politicians with a proper plan for UK economy.

Lower populations and higher taxes. It was never going to end well for the UK when we opened the doors and encouraged uncontrolled low paid and therefore low taxed immigration especially when they require the same level of public services as everyone else.

Not been to Sweden but could live in Norway, it’s remoteness and sparseness especially around Lofoten is beautiful, not to mention the openness of the people and the lack of crime. It’s the only place I’ve been to where I haven’t even bothered to take my rods and reels of the boat in the evening as I knew they wouldn’t get nicked. The only downside is it’s £8 a pint but you will never have to pay for any fish, even someone who’s never held a rod and reel can fill a freezer with Cod there.
The UK has lower immigration than Sweden, Austria and Denmark from the most recent figures.

It doesn’t take much to start bringing out the Brexiteers on these threads do it. Some of them seem strangely absent on the threads critical of Johnson and the Tories though. Credit to them, they know when to avoid an argument they can’t win, most of the time anyway.

How have you linked a vote on independence to Brexit?
Only on FMTTM.

If the Scottish people want independence then good luck to them, it would be the choice of the Scottish people ultimately. They could do things better than England, Wales and Northern Ireland and could do some things worse.

Hope I would still have access to Irn Bru put of a glass bottle should they get independence. Doesn't taste the same out of a plastic bottle or can.

The root cause would still be Boris Johnson and the Conservative party, as they have increased the sentiment of independence across the border

Question was, would you sacrifice the union for Labour to achieve office? The only way its going to happen is if someone gives them the chance.... the tories won't

I can't believe you can't see that it is linked to Brexit.

It will only be their choice if they're given a choice. After years of talking shyte about sovereignty on here i hope those in favour of Brexit aren't hoping to deny the Scots their choice of having it too.

If they want independence, why not? We're long past the colonial age.

They had the chance, they voted against it. Or is it one of them we have every few years now?

Personally I couldn't care less, I'd be happy for them to have a vote on it again.

People are tired of being run by Tory minority, the monarchy is also another stupid bunch with baldy William and pointless Kate telling how we should be,also daftasre Harry and his 30 something wife yapping on as if they mean something special. England and Wales will be as important as Belgium.

Well Cooper, Cameron promised another referendum if something significant changed. I would call being dragged out of the EU against their will "something significant," wouldn't you?

Scotland overwhelmingly voted against Brexit. That is why independance from the UK has now got so much support. That is why independence is linked to Brexit.
They were also sick of voting Labour and getting Tory. Which is another reason the SNP vote is so strong.

Again I have no problem with Scottish independence, my issue is Sturgeon saying how they are going to keep the pound, keep the Barnett formula but have more powers and be in the EU etc. It’s almost as if she doesn’t know what she wants any more, full independence, half independence with all the perks of the union etc. If they want independence it needs to be complete and total so that our economies are not intrinsically linked or affected by one another. Even the EU won’t accept that. I think Nicola could be in trouble next election, she’s almost going it alone on Covid and you can only blame Westminster for so long when you do that and then consequently make millions unemployed. People tend to protest vote when they are angry and not re elect the same again. The guy who gets made redundant isn’t going to care about independence more than the fact he’s lost his job. I live in a Gatwick constituency, Labour will never win here but I can see them eating into the Tories majority given the state of the local economy and how the government has abandoned aviation. 4 years is a long time but the economic fallout of this will probably last a generation one way or another.

You've lost the plot.
