Super Bowl LVIII

It's a bit of a dull one for me, but I'll stay up and be supporting the 49ers. Just because they're not the Chiefs

And Usher... šŸ˜©

I doubt itā€™ll be dull as both teams have experienced and exciting offenses. Iā€™m a big Niner fan so Iā€™m just hoping Mr Irrelevant can hold his nerve and beat Mahomes and co. Itā€™s tall order I know but maybe the fact that Mahomes Snr was arrested at the weekend is a good omen.

The MAGA crowd already know the result. Chiefs win, Kelce MVP and then Taylor Swift runs on to kiss him and endorses Biden for President.
Drink the QAnon coolaid and get with the program.
In all seriousness though I fancy the Chiefs based on nothing other than their pedigree in the big games. So that's the 49'ers lifting the trophy based on my ability to incorrectly predict results šŸ˜

You canā€™t really separate the teams offensively but defensively perhaps the Niners know how to create turnoversā€” I think the game could just come down to that. Both teams have great field goal kickers, with the Niners rookie kicker Jake ā€œthe snakeā€ Moody who reportedly can hit a field goal from 70+ yards. which would be incredible if he has to kick a game winner on the last kick from that distance.

I'm really surprised that some serious NFL commentators I follow on twitter are complaining that the Chiefs have the stadium to practice & the home dressing room while the 49ers are at the local college and saying the fix is in, but it is standard practice for the super bowl that the 'home team' gets the stadium.

I think I saw the first ever of this on TV , before the name Superbowl came into it. It was mid 1800's and some team called the Dead Rabbits went up against The Native's in the Five Points stadium of New York. There was no protective gear so lots of smashed up legs , arms n faces. Only after about 15mins The Natives were declared winners on account of the Dead Rabbits captain took a really nasty injury and had to pass on to the other side. It was brutal.

I think Chiefs as well. They've been in the SuperBowl lots recently and know how to win it. They will be less nervous I'd imagine.

Before the playoffs started I'd have said 49ers, and they were my pick from the NFC, but they haven't been impressive in their games and they've had a relatively easy run against a very young Packers side and then a Lions team that haven't been anywhere near the playoffs in a long time. Chiefs have already beaten some tough teams so I think have the momentum.

Mid 1800's? The first American Football game of any kind didn't take place until 1869.

1st college football game ever was New Jersey vs. Rutgers in 1869

Perhaps you meant mid 1900's? According to the Encyclopedia Britannica:

The first Super Bowl was held on January 15, 1967.

Super Bowl

Will probably watch to halftime and catch the second half when I get up Monday morning.

Should be a close game but hard to bet against the Chiefs with their big game experience.

Love the NFL regular season and play off rounds much more than the Super Bowl, but thatā€™s probably because of who I support.

The halftime "extravaganza" kills it for me. I want to watch the sport, not an hour's worth of MTV.

So halftime for me as usual, catch the scores/highlights on the Monday.

Can't see KC losing tbh, they've hit form at the right time and the game v the Ravens showed how champions get things done.

So, nailed on SF win šŸ˜šŸ˜

I don't dislike the Chiefs for winning in the way the Patriots we despised.

Reid and Mahomes are more charismatic individuals than Belichick and Brady were and, thus far, haven't had that whiff of cheating about them.
Taylor Swift also really winds up the MAGA mob.

That said, the 49ers have been the best team for most of the season, and they have usually been entertaining and creative to watch. I just have a problem with their links to Leeds United.

Whatā€™s the MAGA connection? Are they all supporting one of the teams?
The MAGA lot thought Taylor Swift was some sort of Aryan poster girl for the Republicans but then she outspokenly supported the Democrats so now she is hated by them. The fact she gets so much publicity they think it's some sort of conspiracy to help out Biden and the Democrats. They think the Chiefs getting to the Superbowl has been orchestrated to get more Swift airtime and therefore Biden popularity. It's crackers but that's MAGA for you.

And if this sounds insane, it's because it is. But that's Fox News for you (I believe right-wing conspiracy loon Jesse Watters was the one to suggest Swift is a Pentagon asset.)

The NFL commissioner was asked about the Conspiracy theory last night at the press conference and itā€™s even on the front page of the BBC news channel.
