They both need looking into.It surprises me that people are more willing to argue about the points system than the fact that corporates get their hands on tickets in effect 'under the counter' before they are even available to those with points.
I was against the points system from the start as I looked at all the issues other clubs were having with their own systems and didn’t trust the club to administer it properly.
It’s incredible the amount of people I know who you could count the number of away games they’ve been to since last August on one hand, and many of them still have 200+ points.
Because those who can afford to buy tickets and just don’t go to get the points (in some cases purchase child tickets to reduce the hit), buy tickets with no intention other than to bank the points and sell them on, buy tickets for their mates who otherwise wouldn’t get tickets due to the points, or just allow others to purchase tickets on their account. Some with gold cards aren’t the original holders, they have a huge advantage over other season card holders who can never obtain that status.
Don’t get me wrong, we’ve all helped mates in the past or let someone go on our ticket when we’ve been on holiday, working away, etc. What I’m referring to is playing the system in some cases on an industrial scale.
These were all things that happened at other clubs, all could be foreseen and MFC have done absolutely nothing about it.
Personally I wouldn’t like to see us take the Brighton approach, that’s too draconian for me. I’d rather simplify and streamline the system to take away the incentive for people to do this.
You’ve got all those issues plus hospitality can buy tickets under the counter and there’s an away season ticket that isn’t advertised and you can’t buy unless you get a nod and a wink from the club.
The whole thing needs looking at again, it’s not had too many issues so far as we simply haven’t had the fixtures or demand to put it under pressure, but if we get a play-off semi final or are lucky enough to get in the Premier League I can see a lot of animosity building at how the system is ran and a lot of that is the lack of transparency.
