Sunak's wealth....

Winchester is just under £34k per child for day students.

A GP could earn the equivalent of £100k/year if they did out of hours visits to patients homes etc.

A Pharmacist with their own practive would be earning at least £60K-£70k in the SE of England in todays money.

The school fees would take up about 55% of their disposable income at todays prices. I suspect there would have be few luxuries in the household and no holidays.

In the last 30 years private school fees have risen faster than salaries, so it would have been a bit easier then the finance the fees.

His parents would have been at the bottom end of incomes for Winchester children.
Bottom end for Winchester but top end against the national average for the 80s and 90s.

170k in 1990 is the equivalent of 376k pa in 2022

All I want is a PM who truly cares about the country and it’s people. This is impossible, in my opinion, for a person whose ethos is so deeply entrenched in neoliberal ideology. Monbiot (2016) absolutely nailed neoliberalism as an ideology which “sees competition as the defining characteristic of human relations.” This is bad enough but the current version of neoliberalism is rigged so that when the rich guys start to lose or mess something up, there are mechanisms in place to shift liability onto the poor. I am truly in a state of despair for the U.K.

It's wrong that anyone has that much money, it's just hording.
He could never spend 1 tenth of it, he could give away half without noticing any difference to his lifestyle.
If people horded food to the same extent when many are starving they would be uproar.
So much of the world's wealth gathers dust in bank accounts that never get used whilst others try and survive on a dollar a day

Oh it’s absolutely wrong for anyone to have so much money. Just for scale, it’s his wife’s dosh mostly. She owns 0.93% of Infosys and somehow has parlayed that into the best part of a billion quid. I imagine that moving into 10 Downing Street is a downgrade for her.

£170k was already an equivalent. (Average GP earnings were nowhere near £100k in 1990).

Incidentally, I wondered if Sunaks huge personal wealth could be a good thing in some regards. So often money corrupts politicians. He's so rich already, he doesn't need to be tempted by those sort of offers/possibilities, so might just hold on to a bit more integrity? - (But maybe not).

The appointment of Braverman would suggest that Sunak and integrity are distant acquaintances.
