That’s all we really NEED!!! Of course more would be nice I.e extra winger and keeper, maybe even a left back. But finances are tight and we’re in uncertain times!!

In my opinion, the squad isn’t as bad as some are making out!

Keepers.

Dejan / Pears

RB

Spence / Dijksteel
(Howson / McNair if needs be).

LB

Coulson / Bola / Johnson
(Sav if needs be).

CB

Fry / Hall
(McNair if needs be)
(Wood / Stubbs could have a ‘breakthrough season’)

CM

Howson / Saville / McNair / Wing / Tavernier / Browne

Wingers
Browne / Tav / Johnson / Coulson

Strikers

Britt / Fletcher / Walker.

Bearing in mind we are probably in fairly promising talks about Gibbo.

In my opinion an out and out winger and striker (target man) are our only NEEDS!!

Obviously if we end up selling a player or two (preferably a midfielder) and can bring in another winger / keeper / Leftback would be ideal!

But in don’t think we need to worry just yet!!

I agree, anyone expecting an abundance of proven specialists in each position before the league starts hasn't read our financial situation very well. We will likely have 20 or so established professionals, plus the likes of Wood/Stubbs in and around the matchday squad. Some of those players will be asked to do a job at wing back or whatever occasionally, if injury crisis strikes before the deadline.

Before the deadline, we'll pick up a few loanees, a couple of free transfers, and it'll be fingers crossed on how most of them turn out, as is usually the case in the crap-shoot of the Championship.

One thing's for sure, we have a manager who knows what he is doing, and isn't being given players he doesn't want.

Only 15 senior outfield pros there, and most not very experienced. You are 2 injuries away from square pegs in round holes. We need at least 4 more players just to avoid playing people out of position
Also agree, 4 more feels about right (if they're the right players). I have no doubt we will get them too.

The likes of Walker, Stubbs and Bola will leave presumably. We need a good few players in my opinion. Would be nice to get a striker and a centre back before the Watford game as that would ease a few anxieties around the squad and then go from there later in the window.

Bola I don't think looked good enough. For me we need a left back and a centre half. I wouldn't trust Coulson or Johnson in the defensive LB role though I like both going forward.

Think we need to send Wood and Stubbs out on loan. They need to be playing for their development, it's not going to do them much good sitting on the bench. Look at how well Gibson benefited from having a season out on loan playing in League One before he made the breakthrough.

For me we need a CB, DM, no10, winger and ST. I'm still hopeful we can move on either McNair or Saville which should free up some money.

I know there's no chance of us signing 5 players before the window closes, so I'd say signing a defensive mid, winger and striker is most important.

4, 5 or 6 would be great, certainly if a couple of players leave. But with regards to what we NEED, I think 3 will suffice.

With our current finances and not knowing if and when how many fans will be able to attend, having two specialist players for each position is out of the question (unless we st
art bringing lads from the middle - bottom of league 1 / League 2 etc. Young players (Stubbs / Woods etc may need to become the 4th / 5th choice centre back etc and this time next year we could be thankful that was the case.

I agree we need a specialist defensive left back, at least 1 more CB, ideally 2, a striker (target man) a creative no: 10 and a defensive midfielder.

So 5 in total min

We lost 8 in the summer and we were light anyway. across 46 league games and with a few injuries and suspensions our current numbers would be well short

Defensive mid is most important for me because we currently don't have one at the club. Don't think Howson and Saville is the answer. Saville needs to be playing box-to-box and Howson seems to perform better either at RB or CB bizarrely.

Still think it could be worth trying Djiksteel in that role but Warnock hasn't in any of the pre-season games so far so seems unlikely that he will.

We need more than 4 if we want to try to be challenging for the play-offs imho. Relying on a few players having a breakthrough season and succeeding is a little like rolling the dice and hoping for a double 6. I would like to see the following in order to have the play off push we hope to see. We will be playing more games in a shorter period too, so injuries will be more likely imho as players wont have normal recovery gaps as games are more frequent and if injured missing more games. Mind, I don’t care if we exit the cup comps early this season tbh.

I hope we get:-

Big motherfecker CF
Winger
Ball carrying CM
Defensive CM
CB x2 (wood and stubbs being sent on loan for experience)
LB
GK
(One of which to be able to take set pieces)

selling one of McNair and Saville to perhaps help fund it. If we sold Britt too, then add another striker on the above

However, I now fear we wont and therefore will struggle to get anywhere near challenging for the play offs. I see NW getting us around 12th-14th with this squad. We have a 1st 11that could be capable under NW, its the cover that worries me once injuries and suspensions bite.

That’d be great but I’d be very surprised if we signed 8 players!

Me too, but it is what I feel the squad needs to mount a serious promotion push. Obviously loans would need to be a significant part of that quota too.

We Defos weren’t light last season.

Defenders - Dijksteel, Spence, Shotton, Fry, Ayala, Friend, Coulson, Wood.

Midfielders - Roberts, Tav, Sav, McNair, Howson, Wing, Clayton, Johnson

Strikers - Britt, Fletcher, Rudy.

Also, Moukoudi, Morrison and Nmecha

Not light but also not good enough. I think that’s the point here, we need another 3 or 4 starters. As last seasons the players didn’t do themselves justice

I think 8 players would be the ideal scenario, when I say I ‘need’, I mean the minimum requirement that could see us compete at the top end of the table providing Warnock works his magic.

Light in quality - agreed.

Light in numbers - disagree.
