Stop buying fake football shirts

If I was Steve Gibson, I would be quite concerned reading this thread. It's quite clear that most supporters now view him as a Chairman that will rip the fans off at every opportunity. As time goes by he seems to be getting worse. I think he needs to take a good look at his running of the club and start making some changes to get some of the fans back on side.
Tories gonna Tory

Fair points everyone, not everyone can afford the official replicas - I get that. I suppose supporters buying the fake shirts won't force the club into reducing prices at the end of the day.

But the argument about the fakes being the same quality and from the same production line is absolutely b***ks, at least in the case of Boro's shirts. Errea produce our shirts at their factory in Romania, whereas the DHG et. al knockoffs are produced in China (possibly also Vietnam.)
Have you actually seen one of the fake kits up close? Apart from the sponsor font it’s hard to tell the difference. The quality in some instances is better than the absolute s***e they’re selling in the club shop.

I genuinely went into the club shop looking to spend about £150 ish, and walked out with nothing. The quality on everything was just terrible, even the display shirts were clicked. On one of them the badge was starting to lift off the shirt where they’d just glued it on. I had the money but just refused on principle to buy anything more than my son’s kit that I bought a few weeks earlier.

The first day he wore his kit was to the match and had a load of clicks in it by the end of it. The quality is simply appalling, and I paid SIXTY FOUR POUNDS for the pleasure.

I don’t blame anyone for getting a full kit delivered from China for less than £20. MFC are taking the a mick out of fans. This is the first season I’ve just refused to buy any replica shirts for myself, I’ve bought a retro one from elsewhere.

The decision to go back to Errea was always going to result in quality issues, they knocked out cheap tat for years previously and nothing has changed.

Obviously not related to our club but where on the moral scale is buying a newcastle shirt?

Give money to organised crime v's give money to a murderous regime 🤔
Not sure how that fits in this thread or how it relates to me.

I wouldn’t go and watch Newcastle even if we played them.

I've not read the whole thread, but has anyone suggested "stop buying football shirts?"

You don't need to have one, or any merchandise, to support a club. They've always been overpriced, and every club does the new-design-every-year now. It used to be every 2-3 seasons.
But people DO want to wear shirts to represent their club, especially a 'smaller' club like ours. People want to wear them at the match and on holidays etc old or young whats the issue? Because you dont like it?

Football shirts are having a massive renaissance at the moment with clubs like Venezia, Serie B trying to outdo themselves each year. Even Boston United sold out of away shirts this year due to it being so popular. I own probably 200, wear the odd one to the gym or with a pair of shorts, i prefer the material on football tops than normal tshirts especially on hot days but would I wear one to the pub on a Saturday night? absolutely not.

This is an interesting read about how shirt deals often work and myths around revenue from big signings etc

Remember reading this. You’d read about Beckham “selling” X00,000 shirts at Real Madrid, ignoring the fact they’d have sold most of them anyway with or without his name and number on.

I put pretty much this in an earlier post but the OP has slammed all the fakes as dreadful quality in comparison so I'm happy to let him believe what he wants to believe. But, like you, I have seen first hand people who have bought the genuine ones from the club shop and their quality is largely beyond awful, both in the actual shirt and how the name/numbers/badge etc start to peel early on. They are shocking in how awful they are.

The chinese ones we get (we get them from a Chinese website and have them sent over taking about two weeks for ~£11 each) are absolutely class. Next to the genuine club shop ones the only way to distinguish them is that the originals are falling apart. The badges etc are identical but the shirts just don't click or peel or anything. For £11 they are absolutely amazing.

Anyway, OP can continue to believe whatever he wants but the reality of many families I know with kit-wearing kids is one that matches mine and not the statements he wants to keep repeating. Anyway, up to him.

While we're talking about it, I'd be interested to hear (via PM) from anyone of a larger build who's managed to successfully find a Boro shirt on one of these sites, as my first foray into the Chinese market didn't end well.

I'm usually an XL but bought XXL to be safe, only to find that the shirt they sent was VERY small and tight - nowhere even close to a normal XXL or even an XL in most clothing brands. I looked like I'd been poured into it. Since none of these sites offer anything above XXL, and it appears I need something substantially bigger than that (despite only being an XL normally), it looks like I'm out of luck.

Apparently there's a couple of them at the factory who aren't quite as good as the others. One is called Sum Ting Wong and the other one is Wi Tu Tite. Sounds like you're their latest victim.

Joking aside, it's a shame that as I've ordered loads from there and always found the sizing to be exactly the same as over here. I haven't gone any higher than a Medium mens though so maybe the larger sizes aren't as accurate. Hope you get sorted anyway 👍.

I have 1 Boro shirt a 1997 cup finalists. I always thought it was a genuine one but I didn't buy it so not 100% sure. I only wear it to the match but it's still going strong, after reading this thread I'm beginning to doubt it's authenticity.

Its easy to tell. Does it say 'Midlesboro cap finalist 1997' under the badge? That's what mine says, other than that identical.

I wouldn't buy a fake Boro shirt. Yet bought several on my many travels around the world in the forces. Usually off dodgy markets for playing 5 a side in or sitting around the house.

Thai teams or Indian etc. They usually have loads of funky sponsors on and look decent. Although usually a few washes can ruin them. Yet you pay peanuts.

I don't like them, that's true. I'm not a fan of any sports gear for any other purpose than playing sport. But I've already said I accept I'm in a minority on this. I don't mean people shouldn't buy them; my point is they shouldn't feel they have to buy them.

If people want to wear them fair enough, it's their choice. Just don't believe it's necessary to do so to support your team.

I don't really get the point about "representing their club". I know which club I support; I don't much care about telling strangers.

I think the "renaissance" point is a bit pretentious; football shirts have always been a bit tacky; they're not art.
