Stop arguing

I love this little community we have here.
I've been a member for years - just lurking, but I've consciously made the effort to engage more over the past year or so. I dont think I've had a single 'argument' with anyone. If it looks like a reply to any of my comments is heading that way I just stop engaging. Easier said than done of course. I've had plenty of interesting debates though. I'm all for that.
I dont engage in the other social media platforms at all. They can be toxic and depressing.

The summer can be a strange place on here with no football to talk about. I dont agree with a lot of what I read - but I dont feel the need to argue about it. I'm old enough and wise enough now to just move away from it.

I love FMTTM me like.

My Facebook feeds are pretty clean, it's just the crap Facebook thinks you might like to see. But there are some specialist groups on there I find useful. I rarely post on there any more.

Twitter, and I will always call it that is awful and I really do need to come off it I never come away from looking at it feeling happier, it's definitely not good for me.

It was more a generalisation about all social media to be fair. The Southport thing was the trigger for me to finally get rid of Twitter. And I read some of the thread on here about it, the Hartlepool one and the boxing one and frankly, switched off.

interestingly….plenty of folk have replied to this. And without naming names, not one of the posters who I would consider to be the most argumentative and vocal on here is amongst them. Maybe they’ve taken the day off.

Make of that what you will.

I’ve kept Facebook. It’s a very useful tool for me.
It serves as a good reminder not to reach out to people I’ve not seen in a long time.
I had facebook for a while - ended up on there with a load of people I was at school with. Given that my sixth form was incredibly clique and as I didn’t fit in (won’t go into that just now) it all came flooding back. I had to delete it.

So I went into the office today (I’m usually based at home)

Was having a conversation with someone who doesn’t use Facebook other than to connect with long distance family /friends but felt he had to block two of his friends/followers/whatever they are cos of stuff they’d written about Southport

Like I say. Stop arguing you melons.
I have de-friended a member of my family and one friend for their racism and support for Britain first or whatever far right group is popular and told to them why

Not sure if you are including me in that, but I've made a conscious decision to step back from arguing with people. It's not good for me or for them and actually doesn't have any impact on anything whatsoever.

So in summary, I agree with your theme of 'stop arguing' :)

I’ve done similar. I made the decision to stop using FB actively during the EU referendum. The abuse I was getting for having the audacity to say Britain should remain. People I class as friends and some family members were terrible. I de-friended and unfollowed then stopped using it. I have not regretted it and now find it weird that people spend so much time on the platform.

I much prefer FMTTM.

I’m not naming names. 😉

I got rid of social media years ago. I have one Reddit account because its anonymous and I get to choose what I want to read. I also have a fake FB profile which is just for selling and its so clearly nonsense when you look at the profile, FB insists that I should be friends with people from all over the world as it can't figure out where I am. The rest of it along with the majority of newspapers are just echo chambers. I read Private Eye and Reuters, thats it.

I need to do this, tempted to come off Facebook too. Full of utter melts and goons laughing at tragedy. I only stay there because there are some good groups I'm in, but it's getting harder to stay.
Come away from Twitter, FB, Linkedin.. pretty much all social media. Do not miss it a jot!

I don't see the Twitter toxicity, but that's probably how I use it. I don't look at For You or Following. I've just got various lists setup for content I want to see and just read and interact with those. All good clean fun really.

More people would benefit from going to festivals...
Not reading or Leeds types ( aimed at under 23 year olds ) .. just small mid size festivals.
Rock hard to have arguments whilst people are dancing in fields , even if it's to music you don't like.
It also makes you realize the vast majority of people are okay ..
Excellent point my friend, however going on my only experience of going to a festival back in the 90s….

You’d have to camp in a tent
Can’t go for a proper shower
Have to go for a shyte in a chemical toilet

Oh and there was only about 2 bands on that I wanted to see, rest was all mush.

I’d go further than that and say go to a House Music festival. Diversity is standard, with brilliant female artists alongside males, and people from all walks of life.

Defected Records have a motto - In Our House We Are All Equal.

That is exactly it.
