Stone Wall Penna..

I think we were lucky that the referee was more or less directly behind both players. From that angle, the amount of contact and the way their player fell would have been difficult to see clearly. Had he had a more side-on view I think he may well have given it.

I've watched it repeatedly, and it's just not stonewall at all.

He throws himself to the ground after a gentle brush of the back, you see them given but they shouldn't be.

I’d say it was a pen
I’m fond of the punditry on MOTD in these instances where they would prob say
’he didn’t put enough on him for me’

Any touch is ‘enough’

I applaud the referee for not giving it. I think VAR would have, despite the fact it wasn’t. Penalties are being awarded far too easily. Players are increasingly becoming actors on a stage rather than footballers. Lets remember, it is a contact sport. He went down too easily for me, but we are owed some luck and the ref was strong enough to see it for what it was. I thought he handled the game well over the 90 mins. One thing I do wonder though, is what would he have done with 20K home supporters baying from the terrace? IMHO we benefitted by not having a crowd. I think it makes a huge difference on these types of decisions and why away victories seem more prevalent since footy resumed.

Is football a contact sport?
If you kick someone, push someone etc its a foul.

The only contact I can think of that‘s allowed is a shoulder charge.

VAR is ridiculous, I wouldnt be suprised if VAR gives a penalty against a goalkeeper taking a goal kick some time in the future, IMHO, bringing that into the game its the biggest waste of something new introduced into football

Yes it is, of course it is despite the rulemakers best efforts to reduce it. There is contact at every corner, set pieces, many headed clearances, most tackles, goalkeeping interventions etc

I never argue against penalties, you see em giving when there has been blatant dive & not given when a player has been cut in two, classic example is Pickford & the common assault on Virgil, a clear sending off but the ref didnt see it
For me the player tried to cheat to win a penalty

Dive.

Same as Batshuayi dived for Palace on Saturday to get a penalty, same as Snodgrass dived to get the free kick leading to West Ham's equaliser on Saturday.

The modern game is a joke with players falling over left right and centre encouraged to do so by managers, pundits etc and **** poor referees

Totally agree, let's get away from these cheating, diving spoilt brats who ruin our game & the incompetent refs who continually fall for it

He went down easily, but these are given nine times out of 10!

My heart stayed in my mouth for a good two minutes after it wasn't given, and I was on tenterhooks for the rest of the game waiting for the ref make a 'leveller' decision in the box.

I would like to see a retrospective 5 game ban for proven cheats and the player fined the current maximum 2 week wages permitted, with the money being shared amongst local charities within the clubs regional community.

Problem is not perceived as cheating these days.

Snodgrass ran in front of the Spurs player, fell to the floor, he was looking at the ref before he even hit the ground. It's ruined the game.

A bit extreme (surprised you didn't want the miscreant shot to discourage others!) I think simply issue a retrospective red card and concomitant ban.

Agree with your comments coluka, I'd go one step more & deduct the teams points as managers approve of their players cheating

As managers come on after games complaining about decisons thats went against them I would love if a manager came on & said the ref got it completely wrong when giving their team a penalty, wont happen mind

Its a thought, not a sensible lawful one Muttley, but thanks. The real point is clear, if you ban for 5 games as opposed to 3 it is a huge deterrent. If the fine goes to the community rather than staying within the club, then it is a double whammy for club and player when coupled with a longer ban. It would soon ensure diving was driven out of the game.

Never going to happen. How many games ban is it for a red card? Wasn't there a move to card players for diving, seems to me refs need to be reminded of that.

The ref bottled it recently when he should have booked the Barnsley player when he cheated & dived in the box against us then booked a number of Boro players when he was wrong, incompetent refs & cheating players, the game is ruined
