Stoke City Freeze Prices

Hull City are spending big, lower crowds. And only £10 a ticket for the game against Stoke.
Others are managing it as Finny says
Hull are spending big but if they don't go up soon they could be in trouble. I'm not sure they have a sustainable model.

To help some posters.....

Theatre prices are typically around £26 to £27 and that to say see a tribute band live with maybe a pound off for concessions i.e the average customer pays around £26.50 plus booking fees.

At MFC its around £12.50 (soucre MFC/Rob Nichols) if they attend all their 23 League games. Even if they say miss 3 its £13.80 plus VAT each.

This is comparing live professional entertainment in Middlesbrough.

Even for walk up if there were a 70 year old 40 year old and 10 year old - next season it probably would be £33, £24, £15 in the Lower West Stand (£72) while £27 times 3 = £81.

Live entertainment is not cheap nowadays.

As said before Stoke City are under selling the product. MFC did the same in the 1970s and early 80s. The average revenue they are receiving per ST holder per game is probably around £9.

I don't understand how the cost of going to the theatre comes into this argument. The going rate for Championship football is set by all of the clubs in the league and what they charge. We are the most expensive and to start bringing Middlesbrough little theatre into it is clutching at straws in the extreme.

Maybe Gibson sees posts from the likes of yourself and sees it as justification for the way he operates? Thankfully you are very much in the minority these days. It's clear from posts on here and chatting to other Boro fans that people think enough is enough. We're not getting value for money. When large groups of fans are arranging protests, alarm bells should be ringing for Gibson. We can only hope that he changes his ways at some point and he makes it the community club that he claims it is.

Nobody takes their under 17 kids to the theatre locally, regular..
It's a pointless comparison, that it illogical.
Unless ' theatre going families ' are MFC target audience?

Ref live Theatre its a close equivalent of live entertainment for some people. This is not high brow stuff, say a tribute band. The context is establishing value for live entertainment. No one on this board I would have thought would go to watch say Stoke instead of the Boro, because their season ticket is £160 cheaper.

Plenty of posters on here go to music events.

Exactly, but doesn't that mean that what Boro are doing is price gouging a captive audience?

People keep pointing out the wealth of their owners, they’re limited by what they can put in by FFP and some Boro fans continue to insist Steve Gibson puts the maximum allowed in under FFP, so how can they afford to do it and not us?
They famously sold their stadium (to their owners) at an obviously inflated price just a week before the rules changed.

What are price comparisons with Sunderland? They have just announced their early bird season tickets.
For myself and the 2 kids to get a season card in the SW corner of the SOL it would be roughly HALF the price of what it would cost to get season cards in the SW corner at the Riverside. That's ok though because when you compare it to going to the Middlesbrough theatre every week, it doesn't actually seem too badly priced! 🤣 .

I didn't support a price increase this season and have stated this on this Board several times. The thread was initially about Stoke City freezing their prices and charging a maximum of £345 for a full price adult season ticket, which is not sustainable without heavy subsidies.

Average theatre prices at middlesbrough theatre are around 16-18 quid
T20 cricket around 16 quid
Horse racing starts at about 5 quid in the cheap enclosure

Jam69 - I work in a theatre like MLT, sorry the typical travelling professional tribute band show is not £16-£18 in 2024.

It depends on the act. I could go to MLT tonight for £15 tonight or £30+ for The Drifters when they play there.

If I want to go watch us play against the worst team in the Championship next season in the cheapest seat it will cost around £33 quid I imagine.

The theatre v football argument one is a stupid one. Everyone knows it is. I'm not sure why people make it.
UM

Obvioulsy the initial topic is Stoke City freezing their prices at the rates quoted - is that sustainable? if yes, why can't Middlesbrough FC charge that, I believe was being put forward by some posters.

It did then drift to what is value for live entertainment in 2024. Everyone will have different interests of how they could spend their money on a Saturday. Spending all afternoon drinking in a pub, going to the Horses and gambling, going to a music event at a theatre.

Thats sort of the point. Why pick out the theatre rather than a trip to the cinema?

If a theatre in Stoke was cheaper for a show than when the same type of show is being shown in Middlesbrough, you would compare the price of these two things.

I dont complain about the price of beer in London by comparing it to the price of water elsewhere.
