Steve Gibson Supports the New Proposals for the League Shake Up According to the Telegraph.

I can see why Chairman like Gibson and Coates would support this. They are underwriting what they see as Premier League operations just to compete in the Championship with owners who flout the rules to achieve the Premier League, in the meantime clubs who have made the Premier League get stronger and they get further behind. I don't think they ever expect to compete with Man Utd, but imagine they are alarmed that they can't compete with Crystal Palace or Brighton anymore!

18 teams, scrapping the league cup. So aside from the fact much harder for smaller clubs to survive, if you're one of the 11 or 12 clubs not competing in Europe you're presumably looking at some pretty big gaps between games. Could be looking at gaps of a fortnight even more often than they have now. Sounds feckin awful.

Not that they're bothered about clubs outside the top 6 of course.

In no way should the league cup be scrapped, even if they just make it a competition for teams not in Europe. It would really **** me off if they get rid of it

Steve Gibson supports abolishing the only major trophy his club has ever won.

I hope he at least only accepted this with some compromise on their part, if he has accepted it as has been reported it’s an absolute joke. Will be amazed if he accepts it. I don’t want to believe it

Yep. Absolutely. It would devalue it but better than scrapping altogether.

Challenging times ahead for football, if this is how clubs survive than it should be seriously looked into.
At least a proposal has been put forward unlike the PL or Government.
It would change football forever mind.
I get so sick of the PL, sold it's soul to the rich and shady, lots of dubious money wash in the PL.
Sad times for us footie fans, something had to give with or without the pandemic though, football in the EPL was/is unsustainable

If true, this looks like Gibson doing some serious brown-nosing.

How can anyone outside of the top 6 clubs support giving those clubs extra powers. Why should Man Utd or Liverpool have any more power than Accrington Stanley or Tranmere? It stinks to high heaven and if Gibson is in support then it's very disappointing.

Well if Parry is lying Im sure Steve Gibson would have issued a complete rebuttal immediately. It will be true I am certain of that and do understand why he as an owner would support it as Otto says.

Yes. Like I said earlier in the thread, I can see owners using this as an opportunity to solve a lot of finance problems. However the danger is a financially stable club, operating in an increasingly uncompetitive sport. Gibson will have to look at this as both a club owner and business man straining under the weight of costs and also as a supporter of a club that is at the heart of the community.

Could all this be a desperate bargaining tactic. Will the Burnleys of this world feel the shame of not voting in a £250m lifeline package to the EFL. The EFL may not survive without this money - the only moral high ground in this highly immoral Operation Power Grab is the helping hand extended to the Football League. Would it not now make sense for the rest of the Premier League to push this same agenda and so close down any good will for the big clubs and also firmly underline who are the goodies and baddies in this.
It looks as if the Premier clubs are only going to act if under threat. And here is the threat.

Why has it taken Man Utd and Liverpool to come up with a proposal? This has been coming for years and the Premier League, EFL and the FA should all be working tirelessly to sort this out. If the wealth was already being shared theroughout te leagues, financial fair play was actually enforced, there had been actual fit and proper owners tests and salary caps in place then English football would be in a much better place. This is just a way for the big clubs to get an even bigger piece of the pie while the other 80 odd clubs all fall in line.

Accrington Stanley or Tranmere will have exactly the same powers as they have now which is zero. They are not in the premier league so have no voting rights on Premier league matters

The £250m lifeline is desperately needed, but it's only a short term fix.

I will only make a comment about Gibson’s views when I have actually heard them.
We don’t yet know what his position is and why.
