Stephen walker

I'd like to see Wood in the team. This lad is going to be a huge star.
Walker looked like he was progressing on-loan, might be worth a chance depending on squad depth..

Clearly not ready for the first team when given his chance, but that doesn't mean he never will be.

Got into goalscoring positions, and that's the first thing for a striker. It's when they don't that you worry.

I thought he did well when he came on against Charlton in a our 1-0 win, and he followed this up away at Forest in the massive draw there that began our season-saving run of games. At that stage, I thought we'd see more of him as he definitely had something about him.

Should Walker, O’Neil, Stubbs, Wood & Malley all be going out on loan to develop and progress?
I think this loan nonsense is why more youngsters don’t break into the squad because when injurie/suspensions occur rather than be on the spot to grab the opportunity they’re in Exeter or Accrington. I know they can be called back but it’s not the same as “grab your boots lad you’re playing”!

Stubbs has had some useful experience in the SPL and Dutch League - the others I would definitely like the see loaned out in L1 and L2 and even National League. Ben Gibson did a year at York and and a year at Plymouth and it must have helped him.

Ben Gibson, Adam Reach, Dael Fry, Joe Bennett, Coulson, Tav, Spence, Pears all came through the Academy since 2009. Jason Steele, Richie Smallwood , Jordan Jones , Harry Chapman are earning a living in professional football too.

But if they stay here and an injury/suspension to a first teamer doesnt happen then the kid is only playing youth football when they really need to be playing in senior football.
To me the level they go to is really important, they should be at a level were they are starting every game and not just going to Div 1 and being a fringe player there. if it means Div 2/Conference and playing every week then that is game time and that is what they need at this stage of their career.

Agree that Stubbs could find himself part of the first team picture, he's a proper defender and a leader as you would expect being Alan's kid. That would mean Wood would be available for loans.

Next I would suspect one of Malley or Liddle would be around the first team squad the other out on loan.

Attacking I think it's less certain those players will be ready for the first team, and certainly in the first 6 months both Walker and O'Neill could go on loan

I would keep Stubbs as reserve at the club. He is 23 now and if we are serious about promoting youth we have to start blooding them, especially at his age. He did really well at Hamilton last year and whos to say he is not better than Goode.
