Stephen walker

Thats alright then, get rid of him!

He's 19, had 1 start in his Boro career and a few late cameo roles of the bench

Hes up there with the best players weve had in the Academy in the past 20 years. Give him chance to learn his trade.

Who said get rid of him?! Dear me! It was just intimated that when he's played for the first team he hasn't shown anything as yet. Hopefully his time will come but he looks a long way off it at the moment.

Surely if a player was going to make it at this level, he would have had much more game time by this stage of his career?

From what I have seen of him he looks a long way off

Don’t like to write one of our own off but in the times I have seen play ( not much) like all off us I haven’t seen anything yet to suggest he is going to make it with us. He isn’t a write off though and need a season long loan to a Lower league club to see how he does. If he doesn’t pull up any trees I would hazard a guess it isn’t gonna work out for him here, but if he does well he maybe worth persisting with

Fluffed a number of good chances when given the last 10 minutes a few times last season, still thought he played better than nmecha though who is a total spud. Not saying either are the answer though

Who knows but it doesnt always work like that? Hes a couple of years younger than Danny Graham when he started to regular get game time, albeit on loan and hes had a decent career at this level. Walker has had one league start so far. Im not saying hes the immediate answer, hes not but theres a reason why the likes of the Academy staff pushed for him to be given a long term contract, which is what he got. He was outstanding at academy level, and has all the attributes to be a good player at this level and higher.

I remember seeing him as a sub in a cup match, possibly when Pulis was manager? He was busy and had good movement. He seems to look physically stronger / bigger now in the photos. This will surely help him in the position he plays. I thought he got good feedback from Crewe when he was on loan. I would expect him to have another loan and hopefully he will kick on. I think he has a good reputation at the club and with opportunities being given to the young lads I dont see why he shouldn’t be a good asset. You have to give him a chance.

Nice write up 👌

He looked very poor when I've seen him play for the senior team, but I honestly forgot he was only 19.

Might still make it, we'll see, he's played very little football yet.
He needs to go out on loan and play consistently at a professional level.

From what I saw hes not striker but in the mould of tavernier, so I'd use him as reserve to tav if he gets injured for now. Lad will be decent given a couple of years to develop

Saw Walker in a League Cup match in 2018 v Notts County when he gave a great pass for Fletcher to score. He also scored a confident penalty in the shoot out and got the crowd going with his celebrations. Hopefully this will be his breakthrough year.

On the basis of a few minutes playing time?

Hes probably the most talented Academy player since the 'McClaren' crop. Yes hes got a lot to learn but a bit premature to write him off just yet eh?
Gibson? Spence? Coulson? Tav? Just off the top of my head. There are a lot better since Smac who have proven themselves.
