The way the US team plays and who their opponents are might be a factor in the selection too. I can see why they would go with a different option if they don’t plan to play it out from the back with a sweeper keeper or they have defenders who need a keeper to claim crosses, corners and other aerial balls.
I agree. Can't see them dominating possession and having the need for a sweeper keeper. I think they will be pretty defensive and the keeper will be called on to make a fair number of saves, come for crosses, waste a bit of time, etc. I guess the surprise is that he was previously heavily involved and now blown out completely.
