Starmer v Trump

The economy has actually improved under Biden.

I agree his stance on Israel makes him look weak, however things would be MUCH worse for Palestinians/Muslims in general under Trump.
I'm not arguing that the views that are swinging some voters away from Biden are valid, I actually don't think they are, but it's all about perception.

What special relationship? I cant see what this supposed special relationship had brought us in recent years. Obviously you dont want to pi$$ off the most powerful country in the world but the idea we get any great benefit is ridiculous - America looks after itself first and we get treated the same as every other european country

Trump will refuse to debate Biden, and the Democratic campaign hasn't even started yet. They're going to have so much ammunition to use against Trump, plus all of his lawsuits means he doesn't realistically stand a chance of winning, despite what the media may have you believe.
All the ammunition in the world might not be enough when you have Biden holding the rifle.

Trumps an absolute basket case, but seriously, what is Biden doing? Can nobody have a word and hand him his fishing rod and crossword - it's for the best.

Not any longer - we've slid down the list. We're still Airstrip 1, but otherwise largely an irrelevance. We're behind both Paris and Berlin now.

Yes. Biden is the big problem. It's ridiculous that he is the best the party can come up with.

This will be Biden's 2nd term if he wins and he has delivered no change of any real benefit in his 1st term so he is arguing from a different position than last time. He could beat Trump last time by saying "look how bad things are under Trump, I've got to be better than that" but this time he has to convince people that he is doing a good job and he isn't. He's not doing a terrible job or anything but he's not delivering any sort of real change. In a country where a lot of people aren't happy with the state of things the continuity argument is a difficult sell.

Kamala Harris is not popular at all, and so long as Biden is the top dog, people may have a worry that he’ll be incapacitated through age or ill health and they’ll end up with Harris running the show. Maybe the democrats can win back some independents who may stay at home on voting day, those who are worried about Biden’s age, by having a better no 2 in place, rather than Harris? Not sure if it’s possible to make that change at this stage though?
I don’t really know much about American politics, but I read a comment somewhere that Independent voters are possibly going to have a massive say. I can’t see too many of those voting for a criminal Trump. I guess the question is whether they can be mobilised to get out and vote for the poor offering being served up by the Dems?

I would be surprised if trump wins, especially if he gets many women to vote for him after the SC decisions on Roe Versus Wade. Dems did much better than expected in the mid-terms due to this issue and their economy is doing better now than it had under Trump.

That’s the crazy thing he does have female support it’s nuts I agree but he does.

I just think that women will be less likely to vote for him in any case but any reasonable father with girls, after the assault conviction and blocking abortion even after rape etc will surely think twice about voting for this slug of a human being.

Prediction:

Trump's lawsuits fall by the way side, or get kicked along the road. November isn't that far away for him to avoid going to prison.
He wins the election against a very weak Biden.
He basically becomes a dictator and is immune to prosecution.

I know there are some very naive people on here (just like with those who said Russia would never invade Ukraine) who keep listing the lawsuits and call other's idiots, but the betting markets don't lie,
and all the powerful people at Davos said they are preparing for a Trump win.

He can't pardon himself in the Georgia case.

They don't believe any of the allegations made against him; even where he has been shown to have committed the act or even admitted it.

I think a lot of you need to remember that polls are no longer the accurate prediction that they once were.
Take the fallout from the NH primary. 70% if Haley voters said they wouldn't vote for Trump in the general, which means that Trump is seen as a threat to democracy even within his own party.
His former press secretary and accomplice to his lies, Kayleigh McEnany has now been attacked by Trump simply because she mentioned this on Fox news and called on him to start campaigning as if he was the nominee and unite the GOP. She also added that it was a good night for Biden who won in NH despite not being on the ballot.
Trump's ability to win over moderates or even try to do so is non-existant. He is full on "win the White House to stay out of jail" and nothing else. His unweaving support from his base is giving him and the media a false sense of security and when it comes down to it, his dictator syndrom and ownership of Rowe will simply turn off voters in the same way that his incompetence during COVID and the general chaos if his term did in 2020.
Biden has actually done a lot of good in the US, but Trump and his antics have taken all the media oxygen away from the coverage. Imagine a world without Trump and then imagine what the news would be reporting on? Reduced prescription cost, record jobs figures, infrastructure investment and lots of other stuff, done may I add, with the presence of a Trump biased Congress who's intent is not to govern but to disrupt.
It'll be Biden Vs Trump and it's fair to think that Biden is too old. Biden however is not anti democracy or a serial loser and Trump is too polarising to win over the voters he needs to overturn his loss in 2020.

Right now in the US it’s like a Tory party leadership election. The Media would be ranting how well Kimi Badenoch is doing and how she’ll make Britain great again. Maybe.

She then wins the leadership election.

But then we actually have a General Election and she gets obliterated - why? Cos she’s a right wing nut job.

Trump will lose because America isn’t that dumb. I hope.

Find it worrying that America with a population of 340m can only come up with Biden and Trump as candidates for President
Except it isn't that population that that comes up with that choice.

I thought Trump would win in 2016 as he was an unknown. I dont think as a known entity he gets over the line. He embarrassed himself in court again yesterday.

Michelle Obama said that if Biden was a late withdrawal as a candidate, and nobody else being available. She would step in.
That would be…Interesting.

Trump may well be completely incapable by November. I have seen people go from how he is now to not recognising themselves in a mirror in only a few months.

If you think Biden hasn't delivered any changes of real benefit, then perhaps you'd like to consider the info below.

Here's an abridged list of some of his accomplishments, taken from the even longer list in the linked article.

1. Passed a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package.
2. Passed the first significant gun control legislation in 30 years.
3. Made a $369 billion investment in climate change, the largest in American history.
4. Provided $10,000 to $20,000 in college debt relief to Americans.
5. Cut child poverty in half through the American Rescue Plan.
6. Capped prescription drug prices at $2,000 per year for seniors.
7. Achieved historically low unemployment rates after the pandemic caused them to skyrocket.
8. Imposed a 15% minimum corporate tax on some of the largest corporations in the country.
9. Recommitted America to the global fight against climate change by rejoining the Paris Agreement.
10. Strengthened the NATO alliance in support of Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
11. Gave Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.
12. Created more jobs in one year (6.6 million) than any other president in U.S. history.
13. Reduced healthcare premiums under the Affordable Care Act by $800 a year.
14. Halted all federal executions after the previous administration reinstated them.
