Starmer repays 6k worth of gifts

I am guessing Badenoch using a donors house and which hasn't been declared will get equal column inches in the press tomorrow? I am guessing those who have been calling Starmer out from the Tory ranks will be equally condemning this Bad Enoch "transgression"? Of course they wont. Now that is hypocrisy.
She has 28 days to declare

Badenoch isn’t the prime minister and hadn’t claimed that she will clean up politics in order to get elected, at least not yet. Doesn’t make it right of course, and she is no better. Given the scrutiny around Starmer, I’m sure she’ll declare everything as she should to avoid anything that will derail her bid to become leader. But as I said they’re all as bad as each other. As much as I despise him, Boris Johnson got the same treatment when he was PM, both from the press and Labour. I suppose it comes with the territory as it gives the press something to write about. British politics is a cesspit.

As much as I’m no fan of Starmer, Badenoch is worse in every conceivable way. As are Jenrick and Cleverly. Tugendhat at one time appeared to have a bit more about him but has sold his soul in a bid to become leader.

Much though you and others like to dress this all up as “they are all the same” they aren’t. Johnson took gifts when PM and didn’t declare them. He wasn’t the same. He was dishonest. Add that to his Russian connections and you have a politician incomparable to anybody else when it comes to a corrupt politician.

Johnson didn’t get anywhere near the same treatment when consider the scale of what each of the have done.

I think some people do care about things like that, I certainly do.

The thing is, it just makes Starmer and Labour seem even more out of touch accepting so many freebies when many people don't even have the basics.
The freebies are just part of the game.. expenses, donations, uncompetitive contracts being awarded, cushy jobs being given, directorships.

This isn't a Starmer thing, it isn't a Labour thing.. this is rife and very much accepted as part and parcel of the job.

It needs stopping and things do need to change.. but when you have all the folks benefitting from all of these perks making the decisions.. it makes it very unlikely that anything will change in real terms.

But when some of those folk, who now make the decisions, claimed they were going to clean up politics and restore trust, doing the opposite looks very bad 👍

this isn't a new thing. for me it doesn't look bad.. it's just how it is. if anything changes I would be very surprised.

I think folks need to get out of the Labour are bad because of this and Conservative are bad because of that drivel.

Politicians are bad because the all have their fingers in the same pies and all drink from the same cup.

If it is the right thing for Starmer as the leader of the party to return some of his freebies should there not be the same standard for fellow cabinet members and others across the party?

Forgive me if I’ve missed this but if everything was fine and above board why is he now changing tact and paying for things out of his own pocket?

Someone mentioned yesterday he's maybe been shamed into doing it and I can sort of see their point.
That’s what I thought tbh. It sort of proves why people are irked by it. He found the money to pay for things for himself but was originally happy not to. I understand it’s an issue across politics and not exclusive to Starmer or whoever in the cabinet, I just don’t agree with any of it. Fair play for paying the money, it does put a tiny bit of pressure on Tories to do likewise I suppose. This is a good lesson for all of them regarding how the media actually works. What he does need to do is really start taking up some of the things he’s done in office, in just a few months. He needs to push, push, push and push it. He needs to be absolutely rabid and call out Tory corruption at every available opportunity as well.

The press are going at him for watching arsenal from their box when HE OBVIOUSLY CANT USE HIS SEASON TICKET because he'd need however much security around him costing how much to the taxpayer - BUT LETS NOT GET IN THE WAY OF A GOOD STORY - this country - honestly. Absolute basket case....
