Starmer repays 6k worth of gifts

You do realise you keep saying you are going to ignore me and then keep doing the opposite?
Sherlock. What a sad sack you are.
What a Sad pathetic existence. Ah well you've got at least another 4 and a half years to go with this tiresome act.

The Tories and the lovely Reform are very quiet on this.

I wonder why….

If I was Starmer I wouldn’t let all this minor nonsense put me off prosecuting the PPE corruption under the Tories.

Let’s clean it up at the big level.
Because they’re all at it. The fact that none of them are really calling each other out is because it will open a big can of worms and it will end up just like the expenses scandal.

I’ve been saying for years, that regardless of the colour of the rosette they wear, they’re all a bunch of self serving, self interested hypocrites.

Labour in their last stint in government changed the rules so ministers had to declare their interests. The tories QuickTime reversed that legislation. Starmer is planning on reintriducing it.

There's a difference right there. Because you say something doesn't make it so.

Yes but half the electorate is ‘at it’ as well.

Corporate hospitality is an accepted and expected part of day to day business in the private sector.

How much cash in hand goes on?

How big is the black economy?

How many businesses are fiddling or evading tax?

How much ‘stealing’ goes on in the workplace (even a pen is company property).

How many do personal things, private phone calls, get ‘fliers’ whilst at work?

The population is not full of saints and most people are tolerant of weaknesses provided they are not too serious. I think that’s why Boris Johnson won an election despite being a well known liar and wide boy.

It is what it is.

So should he have taken out an advert in all the national papers to declare it?
Did I say that in any way?

No.

I was simply explaining the patently obvious and frankly I was surprised that I had to.

The media attention shone a light on Starmer’s sponging and that is why everyone in the country is aware of it, not because it was entered into a register.

Dear oh dear……

Your correct in every thing you say, but the perception was Starmer was going to be different.

The perception was he was going to clean up politics.

That perception lasted about a month.

Do you notice I have used the word perception, that's because people dont always look at the finer details but they are swayed by several factors sometimes true sometimes not.

Steamer needs to manage the perception of things.

This is the main issue, the hypocrisy.

I was replying to a point Uncle Rico was making that all the politicians are ‘guilty’ of doing it.

And they are no doubt about that.

My point was that the politicians are simply a reflection of the society we are in.

I’m not convinced that many people will think Starmer has done much if anything wrong, I don’t know about the clothes sponsorship of celebrities generally but football matches and concert tickets in the corporate world??

Just commonplace isn’t it?

I can understand political opponents of Starmer both right and left trying to make something of it, but you know I think there are far more important things to be debating.

Just my opinion.

Why do 'idiots' keep saying Starmer was found out!
First of all - no he wasn't found out. To say he was found out, is to imply he has breached or transgressed rules or the law. Starmer has not done any of that.
Secondly - all if the gifts have been declared through the parliamentary procedures, so those looking to find something do not have to look very far. Starmer has followed the rules and declared what he has been given. He does not and did not make the rules. He has not done anything that many other MPs and ministers have previously done.

Whether they should receive gifts is a different issue, but to say he's been found out or imply he is morally corrupt is just wrong.

One example from memory - part of Johnson's trail of greed - he accepted a £15,000 Caribbean holiday from his Tory donor pal David Ross and that wasn't properly declared.... That didn't get any of the scrutiny this episode has had .... And of course it didn't because the right wing press tend not to pxss on their own chips!

I am guessing Badenoch using a donors house and which hasn't been declared will get equal column inches in the press tomorrow? I am guessing those who have been calling Starmer out from the Tory ranks will be equally condemning this Bad Enoch "transgression"? Of course they wont. Now that is hypocrisy.
