Spurs open talks on Spence

I think it seems that way from the outside, but there does seem to be some real issues that we don't know about (a poster alluded to these yesterday, can't recall who it was).

Ultimately its helped Jones establish himself, in addition to making the club a lot of money for Spence, so a win win really.

I don't think he would have been loaned out if CW had been in Warnocks position, but that's largely due to Spence suiting the wing back position.

Personally I'm not too disappointed the way things have worked out.
Well, we finished 7th and I doubt that Forest would have got in play-offs if we had not loaned them Spence so maybe cost us the chance of promotion. A lot of uncertainties - we will never know I suppose. Warnock may still have been our manager if we had kept Spence.

Maybe he isn't our manager because he couldn't manage Spence?

I'd say that if they offer 15 million plus add ons based on his performances, potential senior England call-up and percentage of any sell on value then we should start to listen.

As previous posters have said, the Trees going up could do us a good favour financially as it means another club now with the means to pay handsomely who are hugely interested. As we know there's a "gentleman's agreement" honoured for the playoff final that sees the losing side bag the gate receipts etc to the tune of maybe 3 million, it would be nice if we got that kind of gravy added to the Spence fee just for NF getting promoted.👍
Can you please explain the "gentleman's agreement" you have mentioned? I've not heard anything about this.

Basically over the last few years the winning team have let 100% of the gate receipts go to the losing team.

Probably as they are about to get the Premier riches. Which ironicallly arnt riches if they try and compete in the Premier and spend more than their income on foreign mercenaries and their ridiculous wages.

That’s happened previously. Cattermole was an example.
Are you really saying that being “unable” to manage Lee Cattermole is the reason that Southgate lost his job?
Do you really think Lee Cattermole had that level of significance or importance?
I don’t.

Possibly that reason wasn’t the governing factor that Southgate went, as Gareth left the season after Cattermole did, but getting rid of Middlesbrough’s youngest ever captain (to Wigan) and a combatative player we could not really afford to lose , may have contributed to GS’s eventual demise. But then only Southgate would know how much “control” affected his thinking.

I just see a contradiction here.
There was nobody moaning about Spence going out on loan, yet the decision you say should yield at least £15m plus sell on clauses.
I'd say Warnock's decision has made Middlesbrough an awful lot of money that should be a massive help in building a team to get us up this season.
No contradiction Indeedio and btw I usually agree with your posts
One thing sticks out though
Forest are in the play off final and we missed out by one position

Not falling out AA at all. I just think Spence would not have played and in moving on loan we now have the chance of a huge payday.
Minor disagreement 😀

Ref Spence - the majority of posters 12 months ago I believe, could see potential in Spence. Even Warnock who didn't appear to be a fan fo Spence said he easily be a Premier League regular if he worked on his game and application.

I certainly would disagree with the sell below £5m brigade and they were a sizeable minority group on here. Even now there is the odd posters saying he's only worth £8m to £10m and not Premier League quality.

To me there was quality there and lots of time on his side. I would argue many players careers go up and down and 20/21 was a backward season for Spence, but 2019/20 was a very good season and 2021/22 very good.

No one can say for certain, but our weaknessees for me were more forwards and keepers and for odd games a lack of depth for midfield.

I'll admit if Forest had come in last summer with a straight £5m I'd have snapped their hands off. No question. Nothing to see with Spence apart from potential. Very inconsistent and rumours of not having the best attitude (how true 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️). But, fair play to Cooper for getting the best out of him and getting us a potential big pay day.

more coverage he gets the better! Just now on the BBC text:

Paul Lummis: With Man Utd in the market for a new RB they could do worse than looking at Djed Spence - he would represent a major upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, for a fraction of the cost.

This certainly isn't a bad shop window for Spence, who, let's remember, is on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough...

Wan Bissaka cost £50m so if Spence is a major upgrade.........😳😳

Do you think he is?

Wan Bissaka had over 40 PL appearence before signing for utd so they knew he could cut it in that league.

No one knows if Spence can.
I'd say Spence is probably better getting forward, but is quite a way behind as a defender

I don't think he is personally. Spence has had a good season, but as we know that step to the PL is massive. And paying a lot of money for potential is always risky
He may prove to be excellent and be sold for £40m in a couple of seasons, who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
