Sports Direct

From a customer perspective what's "depressing" and not "proper" about it?
There’s virtually no sports equipment. The isles and racks are jam packed with clothing that looks like it’s come from a jumble sale at a church hall. The staff all look thoroughly fed up. At Teesside Park it appears GAME now have a concession in the top quarter of the shop and Evans cycles in another quarter.
Neither the staff nor the customers look like they’ve any interest in sport.
As said above, it’s no Jack Hadfields not even an intersport.

Being a shopping snob I wouldn't go anywhere near the place. Full of fleas and canker.
Last time I went in there I bit more times than when I worked in the swamps.
And it would putting money in Ashley's pocket.

If you want football boots, trainers or casual sportswear, then there's plenty of that, but as above, the actual sports equipment part is pretty much non-existent these days.

Used to have quite a large golf section for example, now it has one stand with balls, gloves and a couple of wedges for sale.

I only use it as my lad needs football boots pretty much twice a year due to the rate at which he's growing at the moment. But it annoys the life out of me knowing I'm putting money in Ashley's pocket.

They've just moved to a new location where I live in Sutton and to be honest it's much improved; a lot cleaner and more organised, more staff to assist and selling high end clothing such as Barbour & Hugo Boss.

I bought a pair of Calaway Chevron golf shoes in there last October. The leather started peeling and cracking and I took them back in May.
I was told by the Manager that they only honoured receipts up to six months old. I explained that this was illegal and they were obligated to repair/replace or refund me under the 2015 consumer credit act. I also pointed out that due to the covid lockdown I had only worn the shoes for around 8 weeks. He laughed and said he didn't have to do anything and asked me to leave.
I contacted Citizens advice who told me he was wrong. They sent me a pro forma letter quoting several acts and especially the ones they were actually breaking the law by saying what he had to me.
E mailed it in to them and was contacted by Customer services asking me to go in for a refund or new pair.
I went in and couldn't help but point out how wrong he had been when I received my refund off the manager.
Will never go there again.
