Spain has highest share of fully vaccinated people of world’s top 50 populated countries (now vaccinating 16 year olds and above)

I Lanzarote they were vaccinating 20 year olds three or four weeks ago.
It varies quite a bit between autonomous regions. Here is a link to the stats from yesterday (with data up to 25 July).

Page 5 gives percentages by region (and total) for at least 1 jab. Broken down by age group as well.

Page 6 is similar data for fully vaccinated.

This was the situation on Monday in the UK according to the BBC.

More than 46.5 million people - 88% of all UK adults - have now received a first dose of a vaccine and more than 37 million people, or 70% of all adults, have had a second.

The Spanish article talks about herd immunity at 80% full vaccinated, but there will be adults who have had Covid are not double vaccinated that could add 9% to the 70% figure. We could explain why infections are dropping in the UK. I don't buy the infections are dropping because its the school holidays and there is less testing. Note the difference in numbers. UK its 37 million Spain its 26 million - which means Spain is has approx 28% less people?

Only 14 deaths in the UK, but 13 in the Andalucia, one region of Spain. (size of Yorkshire?)
The article says it may be between 80 and 90%.

The 7 day average for deaths in the UK is four times higher than Spain, with a population about two thirds of the UK.

And yet talk persists that Spain will be put on our super duper Amber plus list. Just shows what a shambles our travel policy is at the moment.

I could understand it if Spain was added to the amber or red lists for a large number of countries.

Our level of cases across the country is increasing very quickly now. Death rates are also on the up sharply.

I would also be very happy if the rate of foreigners coming to Spain was reduced a lot.

I suppose its a fine balance with the holiday season just about to get in full swing. Could you see Spain following the US approach or is tourism worth too much?

I think Greece have basically admitted they need the tourists to help the economy.

It is a really difficult call to make.

Not all parts of Spain rely on tourism. Also there is big variation between individual provinces within autonomous regions.

For example, tourism is not the main industry in Almería province. However it is key to the Costa del Sol. Both of which are part of Andalucía. How do you define a policy that suits both.

My inclination would be to take a pretty safe approach. However my work and life does not depend on tourism.

This is the worry though: cases and deaths are rising and Spain has a great vaccination record
The majority of the hospitalisation/deaths is now among the people who have not yet been vaccinated fully (or at all). Plus there is the impact of long covid to consider.

I guess it is a similar situation in the UK. However my guess is that Spain will not plan as much on reaching herd immunity. When compared with the UK. At least I hope we do not.

Happening in my local health district this coming Friday....

Mass vaccination of people from 16 years old up to 49 years old - Friday 30 July 2021 - Poniente Health Region

https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021...ed-16-and-over-in-almerias-poniente-district/

Here is a quote from the article: "Appointments will not be needed and anyone born between 1982 and 2005 will be able to simply turn up to one of the two vaccination points between nine in the morning and 7 PM."
